Supplying power to the switch
Supply power after installing the unit in a rack or on a flat surface.
Note: Use of both the rear and front power switches is required for full switch operation.
Connecting the power supply
Connect the power supply using the power cord ordered for this location.
To connect the power supply, follow these steps:
1 Connect the power cord to the power receptacle on the unit’s rear panel.
2 Plug the cord into a properly fused outlet.
3 Set the rear power switch to the “|” ON position.
4 Switch the power on by pressing the power button on the front panel. The
system power LED turns green to indicate that power is being supplied.
For normal use, switch the power on. Always disconnect the power before
removing the unit from its installed location. Disconnect the power by setting the
rear panel power switch to OFF.
Setting up terminal access to the switch
The Nortel Secure Network Access Switch 4050 has a console port for system
diagnostics and configuration. This section explains how to connect a terminal to
the console port in order to establish a first console connection.
For instructions on viewing and configuring system settings using either a console
connection or network connection (via Telnet or SSH), see the Nortel Secure
Network Access Switch 4050 User Guide (320818-A).
