Example AP Boot over Layer 2 Network
Figure 12 shows an example of the boot process for an AP access point connected through a Layer 2 network. WSS1,
WSS2, and WSS3 each have a Distributed AP configuration for the AP.

1 The AP sends a DHCP Discover message from the AP’s port 1.
2 DHCP server receives the Discover message (through a relay agent) and replies with a DHCP Offer
message containing IP address for the AP, the gateway IP address for the AP’s IP subnet, the DNS server
address, and the domain name. AP then sends a DHCP Request message to the server and receives an
Ack from the server.
