Introduction 1-5
1.6.2 Advanced Height Sense Options
The FmXP software can be programmed to perform a height sense on the workpiece to ensure an
adequate distance between the workpiece and the dispensing head. FmXP now supports the following
Height Sense options. Refer to 4.4.3 Height Sensor Setup for instructions on how to use each feature.
1.6.2.1 Batch Height Sensing Option
Some machine configurations (e.g., using the laser height sensor) can improve throughput by “batching”
the height sense operations at the beginning of the program. This can reduce the amount of XY travel
distance between dispensing and height sense operations. Using this new option, FmXP will scan the
dispensing program and execute each height sense command in the program, saving the data for later use.
1.6.2.2 “Height Sense Always” Mode
When the “Height Sense Always” mode is selected, the dispense height is set as the distance between the
needle and the board at the moment the height sense probe detects the board. The board height is sensed
on each dispense instruction. This mode is useful on large boards where the dispense height may vary
across the board or when the dispense gap is critical, such as when dispensing very small dots.
1.6.2.3 Selective Height Sense
Selective Height Sense allows the user to define an area in which one height sense is taken. If the
dispensing head travels outside of that defined area, another height sense is taken. This mode is ideal for
workpieces requiring a variety of dispense heights.
1.6.3 Programmable Fluid and Valve Pressure (E/P Regulators)
Electro pneumatic regulators control the valve pressure, fluid pressure and cooling/coaxial pressure.
These regulators have been integrated into the platform such that all the pressure setpoint values are set
through Fluidmove (as opposed to manual regulators). This reduces possibility of operator error when
setting the regulators manually. It also allows the user to import a recipe that includes all the pressure set
points. Programmable Fluid and Valve Pressure is standard on the S-92X and optional on the S-91X
Dispensing Systems
1.6.4 Barcode Support
FmXP supports the use of a barcode reader to select a dispensing program. Prior to running production,
barcode values are associated with FmXP dispensing programs. During a production run, the barcode
label is read at the conveyor entry station. If the associated dispensing program is different than the
current program, the new program will be loaded when the board enters the dispense station.
See 4.4.10 Scanner Setup.
1.6.5 RFID
FmXP supports RFID tags located on workpieces containing up to eight individual parts. FmXP reads the
tag prior to dispensing to determine which FmXP program should be loaded, which parts are valid, and to
ensure workpieces are being processed in the correct order. After the dispensing process is complete,
FmXP writes to the tag to indicate the success/failure status of each part and to note that dispensing has
been completed on the current machine.
