Glossary G-5
PWA: Printed Wiring Assembly. The completed PWB
with electrical components installed. Also known as a
Printed Circuit Board (PCB).
PWB: Printed Wiring Board. An insulating board
containing conductive tracks for electrical circuit
connections on which chips and other electronic
components are placed.
Recipe: A combination of a program file, vision file,
fluid file, and heater file. These elements, when saved
and assembled, are collectively called a Recipe.
Recipes are saved with a .rcp filename extension.
Regulator: Device for controlling the amount of air
pressure supplied to a pneumatic system.
Reticle: A group of lines, circles, angles, or other
pattern used as a measuring reference, as a focusing
target, or to define a camera field of view.
Safety Interlock System: A safety device used to
restrict access to the inside of the dispensing system
while the system is operating.
Scale: An electronic scale, usually located in the front
lower cabinet of the dispensing system. It is connected
to the software via serial communication ports and is
used for flow rate measurements.
Scale Station: A location on the dispensing system
where a scale measures the weight of dispensed fluid
and sends the information to the FmNT software for a
flow rate calibration
SCFM: Standard Cubic Feet per Minute. A unit of flow
of a liquid or gas.
Script Files: See Setup Scripts.
Scripted Prompted Setup: A prompted setup
procedure, to ensure proper offset parameters for the
Camera, Height Sensor, Needle and Purge/Weigh
Stations, in which you select a script file at the
beginning of the routine to customize the setup
procedure for your particular dispensing system.
Scripted Valve Offsets: A setup routine that allows
you to perform one or all of the setup procedures one
step at a time. It uses setup scripts so you can customize
the routine to fit your particular setup needs.
Search Window: An area defined during the fiducial
location process. The search window is the area in
which the Vision System will look for a fiducial. The
default value is equal to the size of the camera video
screen.
SECS/GEM: SEMI Equipment Communication
Standard (SECS), SEMI Generic Equipment Model for
Effective Factory Automation (GEM). SECS/GEM is
the protocol used for linking several factory equipment
units together via a host computer. The GEM standard
defines useful conventions for designing the
communications interface on a unit of factory
equipment to improve operations with a host computer.
SEMI: Semiconductor Equipment and Materials
International. An organization that defines protocols for
the semiconductor industry.
Serial Communication Ports: PC ports designed to
facilitate serial communication between the PC and
another device.
Service Shutdown: When all dispensing is stopped and
the dispensing system is made safe so that servicing can
be performed.
Service Stations: The Purge and Weigh Stations on a
dispensing system.
Service Technician: Trained personnel responsible for
performing advanced system servicing procedures.
Setup Scripts: The script file customizes the setup
procedure to your particular dispensing system. Any of
the setup scripts (.pss files) can be loaded as a prompted
setup routine and can be modified to meet your specific
setup routine.
Skew Correction: The ability of the software to adapt
to a part not oriented correctly on the workpiece.
Skip Marks: Skip Marks are specialized fiducials that
identify patterns or workpieces to be skipped during the
dispensing process.
SMEMA: Surface Mount Equipment Manufacturers
Association. Established protocol for signal
communication between two or more different systems.
Statistical Process Control (SPC): Machine
performance data gathered and stored in text files. You
can review SPC files to monitor system performance.
Step and Repeat: An FmNT feature that allows you to
quickly and easily place the same pattern or dispensing
instructions at multiple locations on a single workpiece.
Substrate: Any surface, part or element, usually a
PCB, that is being dispensed upon.
Substrate Height: The substrate height is a Z-axis
value the dispensing system assigns to the maximum
distance the Dispensing Head must descend before
dispensing.
Surface Mount Adhesive (SMA): An adhesive used
for attaching chips to PCBs.
SVGA: Super Video Graphics Array. A video card that
produces high-quality color images at high resolution.
Syringe: A cylindrical package of fluid, typically
plastic and containing 1-50 cc of fluid. It looks similar
to a medical syringe.
Syringe: A reservoir containing the dispensing fluid
that is usually attached to the Dispensing Valve.
Tactile Sensor: A sensor located adjacent to the Needle
Sensor that is used to calculate the Z-axis offset between
the Height Sensor probe and dispensing needle tip.
Teach: Entering and saving XYZ locations.
