4 Operation
Overview
The Flow Monitoring System monitors the volume of material dispensed against an established target
volume. The Easy Coat software logs the data and displays the recorded flow volumes on the computer
screen in bar graph format. Flow monitoring occurs during production without affecting the cycle rate or
increasing material usage.
Safety First
Operation of the FMS is performed in conjunction with the operation of the dispensing system. Please
review the Safety sections of this manual and the Asymtek Century Series C-740/741 Installation,
Operations, and Maintenance Manual before operating the FMS.
CAUTION! Dispensing system operation should be performed by trained personnel only.
Adhere to warnings and cautions pertaining to usage, storage, handling, and disposal instructions in the
Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) of applicable materials.
Theory of Operation
The Flow Monitoring System consists of three major elements: the gear-type flow meter that fits in the
fluid line, an interface board, and Easy Coat 2.5 or greater software. It monitors and reports the
dispensed volume of coating on a workpiece. Flow monitoring confirms that the correct amount of
material is dispensed with a resolution of +
0.05 cc.
High and low limits for dispensed volume are established during product programming. During operation,
the dispensing fluid flows through the flow meter which causes its two gears to rotate. A sensor generates
a square wave-pulse as each gear tooth passes the sensor. The number of pulses is proportional to the
volume of fluid that flows through the flow meter. The Easy Coat software logs the data and displays the
recorded flow volumes on the computer in bar graph format. If the dispensed volume is outside the preset
range, the system can be programmed to stop and sound an alarm, pause, or continue dispensing.
Flow Meter Test Utility
The Flow Meter Test Utility lets you confirm proper operation of the flow meter.
1. Ensure the fluid system of the dispensing system is loaded with the selected coating material.
2. Power on the dispensing system as specified in the C-740/C-741 Installation, Operations,
and Maintenance Manual.
3. Open the Easy Coat software by double-clicking the Easy Coat
icon on the Windows
desktop.
! The Easy Coat Operator Screen opens.
4. Select Edit > Edit Mode from the Operator Screen menu bar to access the Edit Screen.
a. Click on Utilities > Century Fluid System > Flow Meter Test (
Figure 4-1).
! This utility is only available if you have installed and configured the optional flow
meter. It is used to make sure the flow meter is working properly.
! The Flow Monitor Utility Screen opens (
