17-4 Glossary
Regulator: Device for controlling the amount of
air pressure supplied to the system.
RTD: Resistance Temperature Detector. A wire
coil or deposited film of pure metal, typically
platinum. The element’s resistance increases with
temperature in a known and repeatable manner.
Safety Interlock System: A key activated device
used to restrict access to the inside of the
dispensing system.
Safety Standard En60204: European Common
Market safety standards.
Safe-Z Height: The height that the dispensing
head can be raised to without impacting other
fixtures or parts on the PCB when moving.
Scale: An electronic scale usually located in the
front lower cabinet of the dispensing system. It is
connected to the software via serial
communication ports.
scfm: Standard Cubic Feet per Minute.
Search Window: An area defined during the
fiducial location process. The search window is
the area in which the Vision System will look for
a fiducial using the Model Finder method of
fiducial definition. The default value is equal to
the size of the computer screen.
SECS/GEM: SEMI Equipment Communication
Standard (SECS)/SEMI Generic Equipment
Model for Effective Factory Automation (GEM).
SECS/GEM is the protocol used in cases where
several factory equipment units are linking
together via a Host Computer. The GEM
standard defines useful conventions for designing
the communications interface on a unit of factory
equipment to improve operations with a Host
Computer.
SEMI: Semiconductor Equipment and Materials
International. An organization which defines
protocols for the semiconductor industry.
Serial Communication Ports: PC port designed
to facilitate serial communication between the PC
and another device.
Service Shutdown: When all dispensing is
stopped to perform machine service.
Service Stations: Purge and Weigh Stations on a
dispensing system.
Skew Correction: The ability of the software to
adapt to a part not oriented correctly on the
workpiece.
SMEMA: Surface Mount Equipment
Manufacturers Association.
SSR: Solid State Relay.
Statistical Process Control (SPC): Machine
performance data gathered and stored in text files.
You can review SPC files to monitor system
performance.
Static Discharge: The sudden transfer of static
electricity from one object to another.
Substrate: Any surface, part or element, usually a
PCB, that is being dispensed upon.
Substrate Height: The maximum distance the
dispense head may descend before dispensing.
Stored as a Z-axis value by the dispensing system.
Surface Mount Adhesive (SMA): An adhesive
used for attaching chips to PCBs.
Syringe: Container holding dispensing fluid,
(under air pressure) installed onto the dispensing
valve body.
Teach: Entering and saving XYZ locations.
Terminal Mode Window: A window or screen
that allows you to type ACL commands for a
particular device, such as: Dispenser, Conveyor,
Scale, etc.
Thermocouple: Connection between the heating
element and controller that supplies power to the
heating elements.
Toolbars: Accessory menus containing icons for
performing certain actions.
Torque Wrench: A wrench for tightening metal
dispensing needles. It is included in the Valve
Kit.
TS-01 Interface Simulator: A small Asymtek
device used to simulate conveyor communication
between the dispensing system and neighboring
material handling conveyors.
TUV: Technischer Überwachungs-Verein. A
European technical inspection/certification
company focusing on product safety.
UHMW Seal: Ultra High Molecular Weight seal.
More wear-resistant than standard Teflon seals.
ULHC: Upper Left Hand Corner.
Ultrasonic Cleaner: Device that distributes
sound waves through a liquid medium to dislodge
debris from the surfaces of objects.
