9-12 Vision System
Operation
The sections below are an overview of the hardware operation of the AV-2550 system.
See Figure 9-4 to locate parts.
Theory of Operation
The camera turns ON and the image is processed through the Cognex
®
Vision Processor and
is displayed on the monitor. The camera generates a crosshair over the image. The crosshair
is calibrated to the XY location using a Fluidmove setup routine.
After calibration, the dispensing head, camera and light source are moved to a fiducial
location on a workpiece. The crosshairs are centered on a fiducial by using the motion
controls on the (Dispenser) Control Panel or the position controls in the Teach Window. The
programmer then can choose the type of fiducial to be used, either an edge or a model. Each
type of fiducial has parameters that can be defined by the programmer. Light level and
similar parameters are adjusted using the vision system menu. The maximum area in which
the vision system searches for the fiducial is also defined using the vision system menus.
The image and the XY location of the fiducial are stored in the vision system memory.
The vision system then attempts to locate the fiducial that was defined. The vision processor
recalls its location and moves the camera to an area within the defined search area. It adjusts
the light levels and parameters as defined. The vision processor looks for an image in the
defined area that matches the defined fiducial image. When it finds a fiducial, the vision
processor tests the image for a match. The results of the test are sent to Fluidmove and a
message is displayed indicating whether the fiducial was found or not. The fiducial search
instructions are automatically inserted into the dispensing program.
During production runs, Fluidmove calls the vision system when a fiducial-find instruction is
encountered in the program. The vision system searches for the fiducials as described above.
Operation Controls
If using FMW or FmNT, the parameters that control the search characteristics, camera
control and light level are located in the vision system menus. These menus are accessed
through the Fluidmove software. See Fluidmove User Guide or On-Line Help.
? NOTE The AV-2550 Vision System cannot be run from Download Mode.
The system computer must be used to complete the search routines.
