Theory of Operation
The Light Curtain contains a photodiode array pair. Light from the Sender unit is detected by
the Receiver unit. This creates a detection plane at the entrance of the dispensing area. When
an object 14 mm (0.55 in) or larger crosses the plane, the light between the Light Curtain
pair is disrupted. The fault is detected and all mechanical motion stops.
If the object caused a recoverable interlock, an amber light in the
SYSTEM STATUS
section
on the system Control Panel turns ON (see Figure 3-4 and Table 3-4). A Light Beacon, if
installed, also indicates this same fault. When the object is removed, the system
automatically resumes normal operation.
If the object caused a non-recoverable interlock, the red
Abort
light on the system Control
Panel turns ON. When the object is removed, the operator must press
SYSTEM RESET
and
FIND HOME
on the Control Panel to resume operation.
Operation Controls and Adjustments
The Light Curtain requires no operator adjustments after installation. It operates in
conjunction with the Safety Interlock settings. Refer to Section 4 – Safety for an explanation
of Safety Interlock conditions.
