Theory of Operation 7-9
PIO96-J Card
The PIO96-J Card provides Input/Output for signals controlled directly through FmNT.
PMAC Card
The Programmable Multi-Axis Controller (PMAC) issues commands that can simultaneously move the
Dispensing Head in X-, Y-, and Z-axes. It uses a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) with an on-board Central
Processing Unit (CPU) to handle the motion calculations.
To maintain dynamic and static positional accuracy, the PMAC receives constant feedback from the
Linear and Rotary Encoders. Communication with the FmNT software is through the Computer Main
Interface PWA and the PIO-96-J Card.
The PMAC coordinates Dispensing Head motion with the actuating mechanisms (motor or pneumatic
pressure) of the Dispensing Valve(s). The PMAC communicates these Valve dispense functions to the
Dispense Head Controller through the Main Interface PWA and XY Servo Interface PWA.
Video Card
The Video Card outputs the video image to the system Monitor.
Power Manager
The Power Manager is located inside the Rear Cabinet. It houses the Main Circuit Breaker (25 amperes)
and the Main Power Inlet. It also contains EMO circuitry, an in-line filter for power going to the
Computer, and a time delay relay. Front and Rear EMO buttons, the green
ON (I) button, and the black
OFF (0) button, are directly connected to the Power Manager.
