7-8 Theory of Operations
Z Servo Amplifier
The Z Servo Amplifier is mounted on an Interface PWA in the Dispensing Head. The Amplifier receives
low-voltage direction and power commands from the PMAC, and receives motor direction signals from
the Hall Sensor on the Z Servo Motor.
The Amplifier reacts to the PMAC power commands and provides the high power level required to move
the Servo Motor. The Amplifier interprets the directional input from the Hall Sensor and directs power
toward the windings that will cause the motor to move in the desired direction.
The Servo Amplifier is rated for 100 volts to accommodate the high output voltage (42 to 85 VDC) from
the unregulated motor power supply.
Computer
Computer is located on the right hand side of the Lower Front Cabinet. It houses the following electronic
components:
Main Interface PWA
Video Card
Image Capture Card
PIO96-J Card
PMAC Card
The Computer is mounted on a bracket that is bolted to the floor of the Lower Front Cabinet. A Computer
Door allows access to interior connections and components. The Door is secured in place by two
quick-release fasteners. The Computer is powered by 208 to 240 VAC that comes directly from the Power
Manager. Power for the Computer is not connected to the EMO circuitry, allowing the Computer to
remain powered up during an emergency shutdown.
Main interface PWA
The Main Interface PWA is installed on the inside of the Computer Door providing easy access to the
board. The PWA includes interface logic PLD for position compare, power-up status and beacon
operations. It is also used to route all signals except CAN communication, Camera signal, and Monitor
signal. Most peripherals are connected directly to the PWA, which routes communication between
PMAC and FmNT software. Board power comes from the Computer (+12, -12, and 5 VDC) and Power
Manger (24 VDC). The power coming from the Computer is fuse-protected. The board has power
indicator LEDs to allow easy verification of power. The Main Interface PWA delivers 24 VDC and
5 VDC to the XY Servo Interface PWA.
Image Capture Card
The Image Capture Card receives the image from the Camera and performs fiducial image capture. The
image is output to the Image Capture Card for display on the Monitor screen.
