Inviting non-contacts to a group chat
You may want to invite IM users who are not on your contact list to participate in a group chat.
To select an IM user to invite to a group chat, if the IM user is not on your contact list, select Invite friend from an active group
chat, view the Invitations list, select Invite other, type a user ID, and select Add. When the list of IM users is complete, select
Done to return to the master Invitations list.
Managing a group membership list
To select an IM user to invite to a group chat, if the IM user is not on your contact list, select Invite friend from an active group
chat, view the Invitations list, select Invite other, type a user ID, and select Add. When the list of IM users is complete, select
Done to return to the master Invitations list.
Banning IM group members
To ban a group member in IM, press Menu in the group chat view, select View > Banned users > Ban member. Type the IM user
ID of the group member to ban, and select OK. A banned user cannot join the group.
Removing a user from the banned list - To remove an IM user from the banned list, press Menu in the group chat view, select
View > Banned users, scroll to a banned user, and select Remove > OK. The user may now join the group.
Viewing a list of banned users - To view a list of users banned from an IM group, press Menu in the group chat view, and select
View > Banned users.
Banning non-group members
To ban a non-group member in IM, press Menu in the group chat view, select View > Banned users > Ban other. Type the IM
user ID of the non-group member to ban, and select OK.
Defining sound preferences for a group chat
To set your sounds for group chats, press Menu, and select View > Groups, press Menu, and select Tools > Preferences >
Sound. By default, the IM application plays a tone for an alert or a message received. You can select a tone or set a sound to silent.
Select from the following:
IM sounds — to turn all sounds On or Off.
New message tone — to select a MIDI tone from a list. The tone plays when a new message is received.
Alert tone — to select a MIDI tone from a list. The tone plays when an alert that you set is triggered.
New group message tone — to select a MIDI tone from a list. The tone plays when you receive a new message from a group
member during an active group chat.
Defining your screen name for a group chat
To identify yourself for an IM group chat, press Menu, and select View > Groups, press Menu, and select Tools > Preferences >
Screen name. By default, your user name appears to others in an IM group chat.
Select from the following:
In a group — to select a type of name to identify you to a group. Your user name, a unique name that identifies you to the
IM service, cannot be changed.
Screen name — to type a screen name up to 10 characters.
Defining basic properties for an IM group
To set the basic properties for an IM group chat, press Menu, and select View > Groups > Group properties > Basics page.
Select from the following:
Group name — to type the name for this group. The name can be up to 50 characters.
Discussion topic — to type the subject that you would like to discuss in group chats. The topic can be up to 50 characters.
Welcome note — to type a note that displays to users when they join the group. The note can be up to 100 characters.
Defining access properties for an IM group
To set the access properties for an IM group chat, press Menu, and select View > Groups > Group properties > Group access
page.
