Defining IM reception settings
To block IM invitations from all users, press Menu, and Tools > Preferences > Receive page, and change Receive invitations to
group conversation to From no one.
To accept IM messages from your contacts only, press Menu, selectTools > Preferences and the Receive page, and change Receive
messages to From contacts only.
Select from the following:
Receive invitations to group chat — to select from a list whether invitations are accepted or blocked. By default, invitations
are received From all users. From no one blocks all invitations.
Receive messages — to select from a list whether messages are accepted or blocked. By default, messages are received From
all users. From contacts only means that messages are received from users defined in your contact list, and all others are
blocked.
Tip: You can block messages from anyone, even if they are on your contact list.
Viewing server settings
To view the settings that are defined for an IM service, press Menu, and select Tools > Server settings. Select an IM service set
in the Server settings list, and press Enter.
Editing IM service settings
Server settings may have been populated by your IM service automatically, and some settings cannot be viewed or changed.
Different service sets allow you to connect to different IM services.
To change the settings that are defined for an IM service, press Menu, and select Tools > Server settings. Select an IM service
set in the Server settings list, and select Edit.
Select from the following:
IM service — to type the name of the server on which your IM service is located. The name can be up to 30 characters.
Access point — to select an access type from a list. The list of internet access points is defined on your mobile device in
Connections.
Server address — to type the IP address of the server. The address can be up to 255 characters.
Username — to type your user ID used to log in to your IM service. This field is required if you defined your IM login setting
to be automatic.
Password — to type your password used to log in to your IM service. This field is required if you defined your IM login setting
to be automatic.
Creating an IM service set
To create a new IM service set, press Menu, and select Tools > Server settings > Create new. Define new settings in the Create
new server setting list.
Setting your availability status
By default, you appear online to everyone logged in to the same IM service, and your status is available to all users. You can set
your availability status to appear online to all users or to no one.
To set your availability status, press Menu, and select My status > Share my status.
Select from the following:
With all users — to share your availability status with all users logged in to the same IM service.
With no one — to block your availability status from all users logged in to the same IM service.
Setting search criteria in IM
Search for an IM group by group name, keyword, or user ID of a member of the group. If the desired group is not found, the
group creator may have set group properties so that a search for that group is not allowed.
To search for an IM user or group, press Menu, select Tools > Find group. Select Name, Topic, or Member, type the search criteria,
and select Find to generate search results.
Select from the following:
Name — to search for the exact name of an IM group. The group name can be up to 50 characters.
Topic — to search for a keyword that describes the IM group topic. The keyword can be up to 50 characters.
Member — to search for IM groups by a particular member. The user ID can be up to 50 characters.
