6 Writing text
Your phone is specially designed for easy and comfortable text writing. The easiest
way is to write with your thumbs using the messaging keyboard. You can, for
example, start writing a message with the keyboard, close the flip and continue
writing the same text using either traditional or predictive text input.
Note: Predictive text input is not available when the flip is open.
• THE MESSAGING KEYBOARD
There are three ways to use the keyboard. You can start writing a text message in
two ways when the flip is open.
• Select Menu > Messages > Text messages > Create message. See “Writing
and sending text messages” on page 31.
• Press
a to the left to activate text messaging.
• Press any letter key to activate Notepad.
The following keys are also available while writing text:
• To insert a number, press a number key.
Tip: You can still make a call when the flip is open. Use the number
keys to enter the phone number, then press
e.
• To switch between lower case, upper case, or all capital letters, press one of
the shift keys
j or . Icons ( , or ) in the top left of the
display indicate which mode you have selected. You can either press the shift
key and the desired character consecutively or press and hold both the shift
and the desired letter key at the same time. To write in upper case only, press
j or twice.
• To delete characters, press
h or Clear. Press and hold h or Clear to delete
all characters.
• To add a space, press one of the space keys (
g or ) at the bottom of
the keyboard.
• To start a new text line, press
i.
Accented characters
The characters available depend on the language selected in the Language menu.
See “Language” on page 60. Also, some accented characters or symbols are not
shown on the keyboard.
