15 Your phone and other devices
Your phone is capable if interacting with, or connecting to a variety of
compatible devices using IR (infrared), DLR-3P serial cable, or the DKU-6
serial cable.
Your phone can exchange information with other phones, desktop and
laptop PCs, and handheld devices. Your phone can also function as a
wireless modem when connected to PCs and handheld devices.
Warning! Your phone must be switched on to use this function. Do
not switch the phone on when wireless phone use is prohibited or
when it may cause interference or danger.
• IR BASICS
Your phone can send and receive certain types of data by way of the
phone’s IR port. Transmission and reception must be to or from an Infrared
Data Association (IrDA) compatible phone or device.
Your Nokia phone is a Class 1 Laser Product.
Important: The preferable distance between two devices in an IR
connection is from three inches to three feet. There must be no
obstructions between the two devices and both IR ports must be
pointed at each other.
Enable IR communications
Before you can receive information (business cards, calendar or to-do list
notes) or make an IR connection to a PC or handheld device:
1 Make sure that the IR ports of the two devices are pointing at each other.
2 Press Menu 9-1 (Mobile link > Infrared), then press Select.
The message IR reception activated is displayed, and the IR icon
appears on the Start screen.
