Network Services The wireless phone described in this guide is approved for use on the EGSM 900 and GSM 1800 networks. Dualband is a network dependant feature. Check with your local service provider if you can subscribe to and use this feature. A number of features included in this guide are called Network Services. These are special services that you arrange through your wireless service provider.
General information ■ Stickers on the sales package The stickers contain important information for service and customer support purposes. Keep these stickers in a safe and secure place. Attach the sticker to Your Details of this user’s guide. ■ Access codes The following access codes allow you to avoid unauthorised use of your phone and SIM card. • Security code: Protects your phone against unauthorised use. This code is supplied with the phone. The preset code is 12345.
Getting started 1. Getting started ■ Keys The basic functions of the phone keys are described below. More information is given throughout this user’s guide. Power key (on top of the phone): Press and hold this key to switch the phone on or off. In standby mode, press this key briefly to show the list of profiles, which allows you to quickly set the phone tones for different environments. In a menu function, press this key briefly to turn on the lights for 15 seconds.
Getting started Other essential indicators You have received a text or picture message. 1. Press the locking catch (1), slide the cover (2), and lift it off the phone (3). The phone does not ring or beep when you receive a call. The keypad is locked. The alarm clock is on. The timed profile is in use. All your calls are diverted. Your calls are limited to a closed user group. 2. Push the two catches in the opposite directions (4), and remove the battery (5). The countdown timer is running.
Getting started 4. Align the golden connectors on the battery with the corresponding connectors on the phone, and push the opposite end of the battery until it snaps into place (7). 5. Insert the two catches of the back cover in the corresponding slots in the phone (8), and slide the cover towards the bottom of the phone until it locks into place (9). ■ Charging the battery • Do not charge the battery when one or both of the phone covers is removed. Basic functions 2. Basic functions ■ Making a call 1. Key in the area code and phone number using the keys to . If you make a mistake, press to delete the character to the left. To call abroad: Press twice for the + character (replaces the international prefix) and key in the country code, area code (omit the leading 0 if necessary) and phone number. 2. Press answer.
Basic functions Use Swap to switch between the active and held call while you have two calls in progress. Use End active call or End all calls to end the active call or both the active and held call while you have two calls in progress. ■ Listening to voice messages In standby mode, press and hold to call your voice mailbox. You can obtain the voice mailbox number from your service provider. To save the voice mailbox number, see ”Voice mailbox number (Menu 29)” on page 18.
Basic functions ■ Writing text You can key in characters in two ways: by pressing a letter key once for each character (predictive text input) or by pressing a letter key one or more times for each character (traditional text input). • To switch between letter cases, press repeatedly and check the indicator at the top of the display. For example, abc is shown when you can write lower case letters. To exit from text input to standby mode, press and hold twice.
Basic functions • If the ? character is shown after the word, no more words in the dictionary correspond to your keypresses. To add the word into the dictionary: Press (Spell), key in the word using traditional text input and press (OK). • If you want to change the previous word, press to select it and edit it. 3. If the text Options is shown above , you can access the following options by pressing this key: Matches: Shows a list of words that correspond to your keypresses.
Basic functions • To move the cursor left or right, press or respectively. • To delete the character to the left, press . To clear the screen, press and hold this key. • To switch between upper and lower case, press quickly. • To add a number, press and hold the desired key. To switch between letters and numbers, press and hold . • To key in a letter that is under the same key as the previous one, press or (or wait for one second) and key in the letter.
Menu functions 3. Menu functions The phone offers a range of functions that allow you to tailor the phone to your needs. These functions are arranged in menus and submenus. ■ Accessing a menu function By scrolling 1. Press mode. (Menu) in standby 2. Press or to scroll to the desired main menu, for example Settings, and press (Select) to enter it. 3. If the main menu contains submenus, scroll to the desired one (for example Call settings), and press (Select) to enter it. 4.
Menu functions ■ Phone book (Menu 01) In this menu you can manage the names and phone numbers saved on the SIM card. To access this menu: In standby mode, press (Menu) and then (Select). To access this menu during a call, press to change the text above to Options, press (Options), and select Phone book. • Search: You can recall the desired name and phone number from the phone book for example for calling. See ”Calling a phone number saved in the phone book” on page 6. • Service Nos.
Menu functions • Voice tags: You can dial a phone number by saying one or more words (’voice tags’), for example a name, attached to it. Up to eight phone numbers in the phone book can have a voice tag at the same time. You can also listen to, change, or erase the recorded voice tags. To record a voice tag: Select Add voice tag, scroll to the desired name or phone number, and press (Add voice tag) and then (Start). Say clearly the word(s) you want to record as a voice tag.
Menu functions ■ Messages (Menu 2) With the Short Message Service (SMS) network service you can send text and picture messages to phones which have SMS capability. In this menu you can write and read text and picture messages. You can also listen to voice messages and change message settings. To access this menu: In standby mode, press (Menu), scroll to Messages, and press (Select). Before you can send text or picture messages, you need to save your message centre number in the phone.

When the message is complete, press (Options) to access the following functions that you can use for sending the message: Send, Send to many, Send by set. • Select Send to send the message to the desired recipient. Key in the recipient’s phone number and press (OK). • Select Send to many to send the message to several persons. Scroll to the first recipient, and press (Send). Repeat this for each recipient.
Menu functions Viewing a message you have saved (Outbox - Menu 2-3) In the Outbox menu you can view the messages that you have saved in the Write messages menu (Menu 21). Pressing (Options) allows access to the same functions as in Inbox (Menu 2-2), except for Reply, Chat, and Details. Picture messages (Menu 2-4) In this menu you can view and send text messages that contain pictures (network service). You can also edit the pictures used in the picture messages.
Menu functions Templates (Menu 2-5) Message settings (Menu 2-7) You can view, edit, and erase the preset messages (’templates’) that are available for writing a message. The phone offers two kinds of message settings: settings specific to each setting group or ’set’, and settings common to all text messages. Scroll to the template you want to use and press (Read). To edit or erase the template, press (Options) and select the desired function.
Menu functions Common (Menu 2-7-2) 1 The settings in this submenu apply to all text messages that you send, irrespective of the chosen set. The available settings are: Delivery reports, Reply via same centre. • Select Delivery reports to request the network to send delivery reports on your messages (network service). • Select Reply via same centre to allow the recipient of your message to send you a reply message via your message centre (network service).
Menu functions Erasing messages (Menu 2-11) You can delete read text messages from the Inbox menu, all text messages from the Outbox menu or both (All read). ■ Chat (Menu 3) Chat is a fast way to have a conversation using text messages. To access this menu: In standby mode, press (Menu), scroll to Chat, and press (Select). You can start a chat either within this menu or by selecting the Chat option while reading a received text message. 1.
Menu functions When you press (Options) in the Missed calls, Received calls or Dialled numbers menu, you can view the date and time of the call and edit, view or call the registered phone number, save it in the phone book or delete it from the list of registered phone numbers. You can also send a text message to the caller (Send SMS). • Show call duration: Shows the approximate duration of dialled and received calls. You can also clear these call timers.
Menu functions Note: When no more charging units or currency units are left, calls may only be possible to the emergency number programmed into your phone (e.g. 112 or other official emergency number). • Prepaid credit: If you use a prepaid SIM card, you can make calls only when there are enough credit units on the SIM card (network service).

Do not switch on the phone when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger. • Message alert tone: You can select the tone you hear when you receive a text or picture message. If you want to select the tone from the ringing tone list, select Personal, scroll to the desired tone and press (OK). ■ Settings (Menu 6) In this menu you can change various settings of the phone.
Menu functions • Phone line in use: With this network service you can select the phone line (that is, subscriber number) 1 or 2 for making calls, if supported by your SIM card. Calls on both lines can be answered regardless of the selected line. You cannot make calls if you select line 2 and you have not subscribed to this network service. When line 2 is selected, 2 is shown in standby mode. Tip: In standby mode, you can switch between the lines by pressing and holding .
Menu functions • Call barring service: With this network service you can restrict calls that are made and received with your phone. Select one of the barring options and set the option on (Activate) or off (Cancel), or check whether the barring option is activated (Status). Note: When calls are barred, calls may be possible to certain emergency numbers in some networks (e.g. 112 or other official emergency number).
Menu functions Keylock settings (Menu 6-5) You can set the phone to automatically lock the keypad if the phone is not used for a certain length of time and it is in standby mode. See also ”Locking the keypad” on page 7. To turn on the automatic keylock: Scroll to On and press (OK). Key in the delay time in minutes and seconds and press (OK). To turn off the keylock in standby mode, press and then quickly.

Adjusting the settings common to all the games Select Settings and the setting you want to change. You can set the sounds, lights, and vibrations (Shakes). Note that when the Vibrating alert function is off, the phone does not vibrate even if you set Shakes on. Starting a game Select the game you want to play.
Menu functions Currency conversion in standby mode In standby mode, key in the amount that you want to convert (press for a decimal point, shown as an asterisk). The exchange rate that you have set in this menu is used. Press or twice. Press (Convert). • View all: Shows all the reminders. You can browse through the reminders with or . The alarm date and time are shown in the top right corner. Press (Options) for the functions Erase, Edit and Send.
Menu functions When the alarm time is reached, the phone sounds an alarm tone and flashes the text Alarm!. Stop the alarm by pressing any key. If you press (Snooze), the alarm stops for a few minutes and then resumes, if you do not press (Stop). If the alarm time is reached while the phone is switched off, the phone switches itself on and starts sounding the alarm tone. If you press any other key but (Snooze), press (Yes) to activate the phone for calls or or to keep the phone switched off.
Menu functions When the timer is running, shown in standby mode. is When the alarm time is reached, the phone sounds a tone and flashes the related note. Press any key to stop the alarm. Note: Your phone must be switched on to use this function. Do not switch the phone on when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger. • Automatic update of date and time: You can set the phone to automatically update the time and date according to the current time zone.
Menu functions To activate a profile quickly in standby mode or during a call: Press the key quickly, scroll to the desired profile and press (OK). 3. Draw or edit the picture as described below. 4. To save the picture, press (Options) and select Save. ■ Picture editor (Menu 13) You can draw new pictures or edit the preset pictures available in the phone. The pictures can be used in picture messages and with the Screen saver function of the Tones and Profiles menu.
Menu functions • Select Colour to change the colour of the line you are drawing. To change the colour quickly, press . • Select Insert to add a line, rectangle, circle, text or clipart to the picture. Use the number keys to draw a line, rectangle or circle. • Select Fill to fill the enclosed area, for example a circle, with the selected colour. Move the cursor to the desired area and press Fill. • Select Invert colours to change the black pixels to white or vice versa.
Battery statements 4. Battery statements ■ Charging and Discharging Your phone is powered by a rechargeable battery. Note that a new battery's full performance is achieved only after two or three complete charge and discharge cycles! The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times but it will eventually wear out. When the operating time (talk-time and standby time) is noticeably shorter than normal, it is time to buy a new battery.
Genuine Accessories 5. Genuine Accessories Some of the accessories are described in detail below. For availability of the accessories, please check with your local dealer. A few practical rules for accessories operation: • Keep the accessories out of small children’s reach. • When you disconnect the power cord of any accessory, grasp and pull the plug, not the cord. • Check regularly that all cellular phone equipment in a vehicle is mounted and operating properly.
