1. Introduction You can use the Nokia Bluetooth Headset BH-501 to listen to music with your compatible music player and make and answer calls with your compatible mobile phone. The music player can be the music player feature of your phone or a separate music playing device. Read this user guide carefully before using the headset. Read also the user guide for your phone, which provides important safety and maintenance information, and the user guide for your music playing device.
There may be restrictions on using Bluetooth technology in some locations. Check with your local authorities or service provider. © 2006 Nokia. All rights reserved.
2. Get started The headset contains the following parts: • Volume down key (1) • Volume up key (2) • Charger socket (3) • Indicator light (4) • Microphone (5) • Multifunction key (6) Before using the headset, you must charge the battery and pair the headset with a compatible phone. If your phone does not have a music player feature, you also need to pair the headset with your music player. Note: Parts of the headset are magnetic. Metallic materials may be attracted to the headset.
Warning: Use only chargers approved by Nokia for use with this particular enhancement. The use of any other types may invalidate any approval or warranty, and may be dangerous. For availability of approved enhancements, please check with your dealer. When you disconnect the power cord of any enhancement, grasp and pull the plug, not the cord. ■ Charge the battery This headset has an internal, nonremovable, rechargeable battery.
When battery power is low, the headset beeps each minute, and the indicator light flashes red. Recharge the battery. ■ Switch the headset on or off To switch on, press and hold the multifunction key until you hear a beep and the indicator light starts to flash blue. To connect the headset to the paired phone or music player that you have last used with it, press the multifunction key. For more information, see Reconnect the headset, p. 11.
6. Your phone should ask for a Bluetooth passcode. Enter the passcode (0000) on your phone. In some phones you may need to make the Bluetooth connection separately after pairing. You only need to pair the headset with your phone once. If the pairing is successful and the headset is connected with your phone, the indicator light of the headset flashes blue slowly.
Disconnect the headset To disconnect the headset from your phone or music player, switch off the headset, or follow the instructions in the user guide for your phone or music player. You do not need to delete the pairing with the headset to disconnect it. To connect the headset also to your phone, make the connection from your phone as described in its user guide. Reconnect the headset You can pair the headset with up to ten phones and music players in total but connect it to only one device at a time.
3. Basic use ■ Place the headset over the ears Lower the headband behind your head. Place the headset over your ears so that the speaker pads fit comfortably. Warning: When using the headset your ability to hear outside sounds may be affected. Do not use the headset where it can endanger your safety. ■ Adjust the volume Press the volume up key to increase or the volume down key to decrease the volume during a call or while listening to music.
If your phone supports voice dialing with this device, press the multifunction key when no call is in progress, and proceed as instructed in the user guide of your phone. 4. Battery information Your device is powered by a rechargeable battery. The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times, but it will eventually wear out. Recharge your battery only with Nokia approved chargers designated for this device. Unplug the charger from the electrical plug and the device when not in use. Do not leave the device connected to a charger, since overcharging may shorten the battery lifetime. If left unused, a fully charged battery will lose its charge over time.
Care and maintenance Your device is a product of superior design and craftsmanship and should be treated with care. The suggestions below will help you protect your warranty coverage. • Keep all accessories and enhancements out of the reach of small children. • Keep the device dry. Precipitation, humidity and all types of liquids or moisture can contain minerals that will corrode electronic circuits. If your device does get wet, allow the device to dry completely.
All of the above suggestions apply equally to your device, battery, charger, or any enhancement. If any device is not working properly, take it to the nearest authorized service facility for service. © 2006 Nokia. All rights reserved.
