The Low-Pass Filter
The image sensor that acts
as
the camera's picture element
is
fitted
with
a low-pass filter
to
prevent moire.
If
you suspect
that
dirt
or
dust on the filter
is
appearing in photographs, you can clean the
filter using the
Clean
image
sensor
option
in the setup menu.
The filter
can
be cleaned at any
time
using the Clean
now
option,
or
cleaning
can
be performed automatically when the camera
is
turned on or off.

use dust
off
reference
data recorded before image sensor cleaning
is
performed
to
retouch
photographs taken after image sensor cleaning
is
performed. Ifyou
intend
to
use
Image Dust
Off
with
photographs recorded after image
sensor cleaning
is
performed, we recommend
that
you record dust
off
Ittl
reference data after cleaning the image sensor.
• Image Sensor Cleaning
If
the
options described in this section are
not
sufficient
to
remove dust or
other foreign objects from the image sensor, clean the sensor manually
as
described on page 395.
