Flash Control

The following types
of
flash control
are
supported when a
CPU
lens
is
used in combination
with
the built-in flash or optional S8-400, S8-800, or S8-600 Speedlights.
•
i-TTL
Balanced
Fill-Flash
for
Digital
SLR:
Flash
output
is
adjusted for a natural balance between
the
main subject and the background.
•
Standard
i-TTL
Fill-Flash
for
Digital
SLR:
Flash
output
is
adjusted for the main subject; the
brightness
of
the background
is
not
taken into account. Recommended for
use
with
exposure compensation, for shots in which the main subject
is
emphasized at the
expense
of
background details, or
when
using
an
SC-series
17,28, or
29
sync cable.
Standard i-TIL flash control
is
used
with
spot metering or
when
selected
with
the
optional
Speedlight. i-TIL balanced fill-flash for digital
SLR
is
used in
all
other
cases.

DCF
Version
2.0:
The Design
Rule
for Camera File Systems
(DCF)
is
a standard widely used
in
the
digital camera industry
to
ensure compatibility among different makes
of
camera.
•
DPOF:
Digital Print Order Format
(DPOF)
is
an
industry-wide standard
that
allows pictures
to
be printed from print orders stored on the
memory
card.
•
Exif
version
2.21:
The D40 supports Exif (Exchangeable Image
File
Format for Digital Still
Cameras) version
2.21,
a standard in which information stored
with
photographs
is
used
for optimal color reproduction when
the
images
are
output
on EXif-compliant printers.
•
PictBridge:
A standard developed
through
cooperation
with
the
digital camera and printer
industries, allowing photographs
to
be
output
directly
to
a printer
without
first transfer-
ring
them
to
a computer.
