NewDeck™ with CoolStain™ Technology
Technical Information Sheet
NewLook NewDeck™ with CoolStain™ Technology is a premium wood stain with advanced infrared reflective technology that reduces the surface temperature of treated
surfaces by up to 40° F (4.4° C). This environmentally friendly solution protects fences from the harsh infrared rays of the sun, makes decks more comfortable to walk on,
and helps reduce energy consumption by reducing the amount of absorbed heat of infrastructure. NewDeck’s patent-pending, a water-based formula includes water-
repelling sealer technology for a long-lasting finish. It is a ready-to-use solid color formula that may be diluted with water to achieve more transparency. Use NewDeck to
restore the finish and reduce the surface temperature of wood and composite surfaces.
USES AND BENEFITS
! Use to cool treated surfaces and reduce the temperature by up to
40° F (4.4° C)
! Environmentally friendly, water-based formula does not damage the
environment
! Protective weatherproofing formula repels water and resists mold,
mildew and fungus
! Provides a rich, gorgeous and natural-looking color finish
! Used on a wide variety of wood surfaces, including decks, railings,
roof shakes, shingles, siding, fences, roofs and even wood patio
furniture
SURFACE PREPARATION
Surface must be dry, clean and free of dirt, grease, glue and existing coatings
before staining. Sand the wood in the direction of the grain with a fine-grade
sandpaper or pressure wash to clean the surface. Do not allow pressure wash
tip to get too close to prevent scoring or furring of wood grain. Remove all
sanding dust. Allow wood to dry.
PRODUCT PREPARATION AND COLOR TESTING
Shake can well. Stir stain thoroughly before and during use to maintain even
consistency and pigment suspension. NewDeck may be diluted with water to
achieve desired transparency. Recommended mix for translucent finish is 1
part NewDeck with 1 part water (1:1). Add more or less water depending on
desired transparency. Test stain on an inconspicuous area of wood to verify
color and opacity.
STAIN APPLICATION (COVERS APPROXIMATELY 75-125 SQUARE FEET
PER QUART)
Apply stain in the direction of the wood grain with a brush, sprayer or clean
cloth. Allow stain to penetrate and dry to achieve desire color. The more time
the stain is allowed to penetrate, the richer the color will be. Remove stain that
has not penetrated with a clean cloth. Wipe in the direction of the grain while
blending light and dark areas to obtain uniform color. Do not allow stain that
has not penetrated to dry on the surface. To darken color, apply a second coat
after dry to the touch. Repeat directions for application of first coat. Do not
sand between coats.
APPLICATION TIPS
! NewLook strongly recommends representative jobsite samples.
Different sections must be tested to determine suitability, adequate
coverage, and final appearance.
! Protect any walls and adjacent areas where staining is not desired.
! Recommended mix for transparency is 1 part treatment to 1 parts
water. Add more or less water depending on desired opacity.
! Apply with a sprayer, or brush. Use on a test area before applying
wide areas.
! Maintain a wet edge. If multiple coats are applied unevenly, overlap
lines may appear.
! When spraying, be careful to not leave a blotchy finish. Drips or
runs, and overspray should be brushed immediately to prevent
permanent drip lines or blotchiness.
! Application on hot surfaces should be avoided to prevent flash
drying. Staining in direct sun or excessive heat may result in
“shadowing” or the flash drying of the stain in sunny areas and the
slower drying in the shaded areas. This occurrence may result in a
distinct line that is visible when dry.
! Freshly sanded decks are very porous. As such, two coats may be
needed since the first coat will mostly absorb into the surface. The
first coat will appear blotchy as the stain is absorbed into the wood.
! Darker wood may require less dilution to achieve desired look.
! Re-application may be necessary on horizontal decks every two
years, more or less, depending upon traffic and environmental
exposure. Re-application of fencing or on wood shake is usually
needed every 4-5+ years. These representations are not claims or
warrants as to performance, but meant to be a general guideline.
Frequency of maintenance applications is at the sole discretion of
the property owner.
PRECAUTIONS
Wear protective clothing, gloves and safety glasses. Harmful or fatal if
