Reference Guide for the Model RT338 ISDN Router
Using FirstGear to Configure Internet Access 5-21
Table 5-7 lists and describes the fields of the Add/Modify Remote Node tab.
Table 5-7. Remote Node Tab Fields
Field Description
Node Name Enter a descriptive name for the remote node (for example, MyOffice). This field
supports up to eight characters. This name must be unique from any other
remote node name or remote dial-in user name. This field is required.
Connection Type Use this box to control the rate at which the data is transferred between your
router and the remote node. There are three options for this field:
• 64K—The router places 64 Kbps digital data calls (default).
• 56K—The router places 56 Kbps digital data call.
• DOVBS—The router places 56 Kbps Data Over Speech Bearer Service
(DOVBS) calls. Some phone companies in North America charge less if calls
are made with the DOSBS option.
Call Direction If this parameter is set to Both, the router can both place and receive calls to and
from this remote node. If set to Incoming, the router does not place a call to this
remote node. If set to Outgoing, the router does not accept any call from this
remote node. In order to enable Callback, the Call Direction must be set to Both.
Active? Select this check box to make the remote node active, or clear it to deactivate
the node. When you deactivate a remote node, it has no effect on the operation
of the router, even though it is still kept in the database and can be activated in
the future.
Outgoing: Use this parameter group to onfigure the router to call the remote node.
This group is valid only if Call Direction is set to Both or Out.
Login Name Enter the login name your router uses when it calls this remote node.
Password Enter the password your router uses when it calls this remote node.
Primary and
Alternate Phone
Number
Enter the primary and second phone numbers. The primary and secondary phone
numbers are the numbers that the router dials to connect to the remote node.
The router always calls the remote node using the primary phone number first.
If the primary phone number is busy or does not answer, the router calls the
secondary phone number if available. Note that the secondary number is not
necessarily the number your router dials to add additional bandwidth for a
Multilink call. If the called router supports BACP, that router provides the dial
number for a second call. In North America, enter the full number including area
code.
