Chapter 1. Precautions for Use (EN) Chapter 1. Precautions for Use (EN) This chapter shows precautions required to use your server safely and properly. For details of names in this document, refer to Names and Functions of Parts in User's Guide. 1.1 Safety precautions Follow the instructions in this document for the safe use of the NEC Express server. User's Guide describes hazardous parts of the server, possible hazards, and how to avoid them.
Chapter 1. Precautions for Use (EN) 1.2 Symbols used in this document and on warning labels Attention Indicates the presence of electric shock hazards. Indicates the presence of mechanical parts that can result in bodily injury. Indicates the presence of a hot surface or component. Touching this surface could result in bodily injury. Indicates the presence of mechanical parts that can result in pinching or other bodily injury. Indicates there is a risk of explosion.
Chapter 1. Precautions for Use (EN) General Do not use the product for services where critical high availability may directly affect human lives or high reliability is required. This product is not intended to be used for control facilities or devices concerning human lives, including medical devices, nuclear facilities and devices, aeronautics and space devices, transportation facilities and devices; and facilities and devices requiring high reliability.
Chapter 1. Precautions for Use (EN) Mechanical Loading Mounting of the equipment in the rack should be such that a hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven mechanical loading. Circuit Overloading Consideration should be given to the connection of the equipment to the supply circuit and the effect that overloading of the circuits might have on overcurrent protection and supply wiring. Appropriate consideration of equipment nameplate ratings should be used when addressing this concern.

Use of an outlet with a voltage other than that specified causes fire and electrical leakage. Do not install the server in any environment that requires an extension cord. Connecting to a cord that does not conform to the power supply specs of the server causes overheating, resulting in fire. Do not connect many power cords into a single outlet by using extension cords.

Installation, relocation, storage, and connection Do not attempt to lift the server by yourself Some server systems weigh 18 kg or more (R120f-1M: up to 21 kg, R120f-2M: up to 32 kg) depending on the server components. Carrying the server by yourself may damage their back.

In addition to causing equipment to not function properly, separating the server from the rack may result in personal injury. Avoid contact with the server during thunderstorms. Do not touch any part of the server including the cables when a thunderstorm is approaching. Also, do not connect or disconnect any devices.

NEC assumes no liability for data leakage. Data seems to be erased when you empty "Recycle Bin" of Windows or run the "format" command of the operating system. However, the actual data remains on the hard disk drive. Data not erased completely might be restored by special software and used for unexpected purposes.

Precautions for Use (EN) • Make sure that the access LED on the server is off before turning off the power or ejecting an optical disk. • Wait for at least 30 seconds before connecting power cord to power outlet after disconnecting it. • If any uninterruptible power supply unit is connected, set it to wait for at least 30 seconds before turning on the server after power off. • Do not press the POWER switch to turn on the server before the POWER LED (amber) turns off.
