9-70 Upgrading Your Server
Observe the following when configuring a RAID system:
Use the minimum number of hard disk drives required to configure the desired RAID
level. These hard disk drives must have either the same capacity or the same rotational
speed. Note that the minimum number of hard disk drives required depends on the RAID
configuration.
Specify the same RAID level for the all logical drives: RAID0, RAID1, RAID5, RAID6,
RAID10, or RAID50.
If you are installing the operating system to the internal hard disk drives, we recommend using the
RAID controller recognized by Express Setup to execute all operations from configuring the RAID
system to installing and setting up the operating system.
If you are not installing the operating system to the hard disk drives, select [Other] in the [Select
OS] step in Express Setup. The installer will then automatically execute the processes from
configuring the RAID system to installing the maintenance utilities.
If you are executing a manual setup, use the RAID configuration utility incorporated in the chip on
the card. The utility can be activated during the POST that starts executing as soon as the power to
the server is turned on. For a detailed description of the data transfer speed and the configuration of
the RAID system and logical drives, see RAID SYSTEM CONFIGURATION (page 307) or the
operating manual supplied with the optional RAID controller (N8103-129/130).
IMPORTANT: When using optional RAID controller
N8103-129/130, do not let the system go to Hibernate or Standby
mode.
