4-38 Configuring Your Server
RAID Levels
The record mode enabling the RAID feature includes several levels. Among the levels, the Onboard
RAID Controller (LSI Embedded MegaRAID™) supports RAID levels 0, 1, and 10. The Optional
RAID Controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, and 50. The number of hard disk drives
required to create a disk group varies depending on the RAID level as shown in the table below.
Number of required hard disk drives
RAID level
Min. Max.
RAID 0 1 6
RAID 1 2 2
RAID 10 4 6
* To configure RAID6 using Express Setup, at least four hard disk drives of
same capacity must be installed.
IMPORTANT: The supported RAID level depends on the RAID
Controller. Choose a RAID Controller appropriate to RAID system you
are configuring.
NOTE: For details of the RAID levels, see "RAID Levels" described
later in this chapter.
Disk Group
A disk group is configured with more than one hard disk drives.
The allowable number of disk groups is equal to the number of hard disk drives.
The figure below shows a sample configuration. The three hard disk drives are connected to the
Onboard RAID Controller (LSI Embedded MegaRAID™) or Optional RAID Controller, creating
one disk group (DG).
