8.7 Applications run on the Management PC
NEC ESMPRO User Group
To use applications run on the management PC, let the user belong as a member of the NEC ESMPRO Use
r Group (b y default, Administrators).
Coexistence of NEC ESMPRO Manager with other vendor's SNMP management
application
When another vendor's SNMP management application which receives an SNMP trap is used along with NEC
ESMPRO Manager, one of them may fail to receive the SNMP trap due to a conflict between the two applic
ations. Through the fol lowing procedures, the situati on can be avoided.
[Work Around 1]
If the other vendor's SNMP management application supports the trap reception function o f standard SNMP
Trap Service, you can change the setting of NEC ES MPRO Manager according to the i nstruction below.
Select [Options] - [Cu stomize] - [My Manager] on the Operation Window, and change the Method of receivi
ng an SNMP Trap to [Use SNMP Trap Service].
The SNMP Trap Service is installed together with the SNMP Service. However, it d oes not start b
y default. Start [Services] from [Control Panel] to st art up the SNMP Trap Service (It is usef ul tha
t you set [Automatic] for [S tartup type].).
Note that i f you set to use SNMP Trap Service, the n ame of t he NetWare server (host) that sent a trap vi
a the IP X protocol cannot be identified.
[Work Around 2]
By utilizing the [TCP/IP report to Manager] function of NE C ESMPRO Agent, the alert reception function o
f NEC ESMPRO Mana ger operates normally.
TCP/IP report to Manager : Transfers an alert from a ser ver to the NEC ESMPRO Manager u
sing an original protocol.
Note that the op erability of the SNM P Trap reception function on the oth er vendor's SNMP management ap
plication cannot be g uaranteed
Transfer of DMI events on Inter-Manager Communication
DMI events are not transferr ed between the Inter-Manager Communic ation.
Installing other DMI management application and manager on the same machine
In case when other DMI management application is installed to th e same machine, receiving DMI events with
AlertViewer may not work properly.
Be sure not to inst all NEC ESMPRO Manager and DMI management application on the sam e machine.
