Buying Guide
WATERPROOF
A full-coverage rain fly protects against rain and wind and keeps every camper warm,
but you may only need a roof-only fly, which allows for more light and good views of
the scenery.
Choose weather-proof materials - Consider a higher-denier fabric canopy and rain fly,
as well as seam tape and high-denier floors, to lower the chance of leaks.
UV RATING
Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light will degrade the quality of your tent’s fabric over time,
so a higher UV rating gives assurance of longer use.
DARK ROOM
With a purpose-designed dark room, you’ll block light when you most need sleep,
such as in the early morning and those times during the day when you need to take
an extra nap.

WHICH TENT IS RIGHT FOR ME?
TENT TYPE - With so many tents to choose from, your first step is to think about what’s right
for your adventure! Consider a lightweight weekender tent (pop-up or pole) for a short trip with a
few people, and step up to a more durable option for multi-day trips like a trekking holiday. If the
whole family is going away, a classic four to nine person tent will be right for you, your gear and your
layout. Tunnel tents have larger living spaces, while dome tents offer more standing height.
NUMBER OF PEOPLE - Once you know how many people will sleep in your tent, remember to
add equipment and any pets to the equation. In general, a single sleeping space will suit one to
three campers, while family tents will either have a much larger bedroom area, or many rooms. Size
up each space to make sure you can comfortably lie down without touching the sides of your tent.
CAMPING OR BACKPACKING? - If your trip will last anything from a few days to a few
weeks in one place, a campsite tent is your most spacious and comfortable option. It provides an
accommodating living area – either one with good standing room, or one with plenty of seating
space. However, for backpacking, you’ll be moving around different sites, so a lightweight, compact
choice is easiest to transport and set up.
