6.1.5 Front and Rear Panels
The front and rear panel of your TRAKTOR KONTROL S4 contain controls and connectors re-
lated to the physical inputs and outputs of your controller. They are extensively described in sec-
tion 6.8, The Rear Panel and 6.9, The Front Panel.
6.2 Types of Control Elements
Your TRAKTOR KONTROL S4 holds various types of control elements, which we will quickly
describe here.
6.2.1 Buttons
HotCue buttons on your S4.
Buttons are spread everywhere over your TRAKTOR KONTROL S4. They can have three Flavors:
Some buttons trigger a function when they’re pressed (“triggeraction), e.g. the Hotcue
buttons: hit one of the Hotcue buttons, this triggers the playback to continue from there.
Some buttons switch to another state until they are pressed again (“toggleaction), e.g.
the PLAY button: hit it once and it starts the playback, press it a second time and the
playback stops.
A few buttons activate a certain state for the time they are held depressed (“gate or
hold” action). Notably, this is the case of the SHIFT buttons (see below).
All buttons of your TRAKTOR KONTROL S4 are equipped with LEDs that give you various info.
Basically, the LED indicates the button’s current state, but its exact meaning varies for each
button—for more info, please refer to the description of each button later in this reference
chapter.
