Setting silent mode
Silent mode allows you to mute the ringer, the alarm and the key tones.
• Ringer — Even if you turn the ringer off in silent mode, a special ring alerts you
if you receive a voice call and a call request.This allows you to continue to use
your fax as a phone, if necessary.
• Alarm — If you disable the alarm in silent mode, the sound your machine
makes when an error occurs and the beep your machine makes after sending or
receiving a fax or making a copy cannot be heard.
• Key tone — If you mute the key tone,your machine will not make a sound when
you press the buttons on the control panel.
Note: Silent mode mutes the ringer as well as the beep and the key tones. If you’re
using your fax machine as both a fax and phone (with the optional handset),
you may not want to use this feature.

In this example, we’ve chosen On.
Note: If silent mode is On, the machine will be quiet.
If silent mode is Off, the machine will ring and beep as usual.
Note: If you chose Off in step 2, skip to step 10.

If you want to turn off the ringer, select “On” and the machine will be quiet.
Otherwise, the machine will ring.

on or off:

If you want to turn off the alarm, select “On” and the machine will be quiet.
Otherwise, the machine will beep.

or off:

until the mode you want appears.
If you want to turn off the tones, select “On” and the machine will be quiet.
Otherwise, the machine will beep when the keys are pressed.

If you turned off the alarm or the key tones in the steps above,your machine
gives you the option of setting the volume for the alarm and key tones.If this
option appears, skip to step 10.
If you didn’t turn any of these off, your fax machine returns to standby mode.
