Installing Eterm for DOS with an Ethernet Connection
Before using Eterm for DOS on your computer, you might need to make changes to some files
on the diskettes. Make these changes to copies of the original Eterm for DOS diskettes only.
This topic includes instructions for the following tasks:
Installing Eterm on computers connected to a network.
Using a network connection.
If you are installing Eterm for DOS on computers connected to a network, do the following:
1. Enable NET.BAT in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the Eterm for DOS boot diskette.
2. Copy the modified Eterm for DOS boot diskette for every computer that runs Eterm for
DOS and that resides on your network.
3. Assign IP and Subnet addresses to each individual copy of the boot diskette (each
computer on your network has a unique IP address).
After installing Eterm, you need to configure each computer to run on a TCP/IP network using
the assigned IP address of the Host server.
Note: Issue the following commands from a DOS computer. We do not
recommend you use a DOS emulation window on a computer running
Windows 95 or Windows 98.
To enable NET.BAT on the boot diskette:
1. Insert the Eterm for DOS diskette into your diskette drive.
2. If you are using a dumb terminal, skip ahead to Step 4.
3. Assuming that your diskette drive is A and your hard disk drive is C, at the DOS prompt
(C:\>) type a: and press Enter to switch to the diskette drive.
C:\> a:
4. At the A prompt, type edit autoexec.bat and press Enter to open the AUTOEXEC.BAT
file with the MS-DOS Editor.
A:\> edit autoexec.bat
5. Using the Arrow keys, locate the following statement within the MS-DOS Editor:
REM call net.bat
6. Using the Arrow keys and the Backspace key, delete the first three characters (REM) of
the statement.
The statement now reads as follows:
call net.bat
