4. In the Connect String field, enter the modem commands and the host modem telephone
number that you want to use to connect. For example, if the telephone number of the host
system is 1-800-555-1234, you might type in ATDT18005551234.

5. Click OK.
The modem dials the host system and attempts to connect. If it does not connect with the
host system, try the following:
• Check that the Connect menu is inactive.
• If the Connect menu is inactive, your host system may be down.
• If the Connect menu is active, click it again.
• Check that you have selected the appropriate COM port.
• Check that the entry in the Connect String field is valid.
• Clear the Connect String field, click OK, and attempt connecting again.
• Type ATZ (the cursor will be in the Eterm window) and press Enter. The
computer responds with OK to indicate that the modem is communicating to the
program. If not, check the integrity of your modem connection to your computer.
• Type ATDT (the cursor will be in the Eterm window) followed by your host
system dial-up phone number, and press Enter. The modem dials the host system
and attempts to connect.
