Configuring Eterm for Windows
The first time you run Eterm, you must enter configuration data. You can change your
configuration setup at any time.
This topic includes the following information:
Starting Eterm.
Configuring Eterm for an Ethernet connection.
Configuring Eterm for a Serial connection.
Starting Eterm
Depending on how you installed Eterm for Windows, you can run the program in the following
ways:
Double-click the Eterm shortcut on your desktop.
From the Start > Programs > Eclipse menu, select Eterm.
From the Start menu, select Eterm.
When run for the first time, Eterm displays the Configure Communications dialog box.
For online instructions on configuring Eterm for Windows, click the Help button in the
Configure Communications dialog box or select Contents from the Help menu.
Configuring Eterm for Windows for an Ethernet Connection
The following procedure provides abbreviated information for configuring communications for
Eterm for Windows for an Ethernet connection.
To configure Eterm for Windows for an Ethernet connection:
1. From the Configure Communications dialog box, choose the Network - Telnet network
connection from the Communications Port drop-down box.
2. In the Host text box, type in either the IP address of the host system, or the host name if
using a Hosts file or a Domain Name Server (DNS).

3. Click OK.
When connecting to your host using a network interface card (NIC) and network cable,
clicking the Connect menu takes you to the AIX login prompt. If not, try the following:
Check that the Connect menu is inactive.
If the Connect menu is inactive, your host system may be down.
If the Connect menu is active, click it again.
