• If your NIC is not on the device list, click on the Cancel button to return to the
Control Panel. Double-click the Add New Hardware icon to start the Add New
Hardware Wizard, which you can use to detect new hardware, including the NIC.
After detecting and installing the NIC, reboot your PC and repeat steps 1 through 4 to
check for problems.
5. In the Control Panel, double-click the Network icon to display the Network dialog box.
6. Click the Configuration tab to bring it forward and review the list of installed network
components for an item marked TCP/IP, as follows:
• If the TCP/IP entry associated with the NIC is there, continue with Step 7.
• If a TCP/IP entry is not listed, follow these steps to add it:
• In the Network window, click the Add... button to display the Select Network
Component Type window.
• Click the Protocol icon, then click the Add... button to display the Select
Network Protocol window.
• In the Manufacturers list on the left, locate and click Microsoft.
• In the Network Protocols list on the right, locate and click TCP/IP.
• Click OK to select the Microsoft TCP/IP protocol and return to the Network
window. Continue with Step 7.
Note: Windows might prompt you to insert your Windows CD-ROM (or diskettes) as
part of the installation. Follow the prompts as they appear on the screen.
7. Double-click the TCP/IP protocol associated with the NIC to display the TCP/IP
Properties window.
Note: NOT the TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter!
8. Click the IP Address tab to bring it forward.
9. Click Specify an IP address and complete the following fields:
• In the IP Address field, enter the unique IP address that is assigned to your computer.
The IP address format is nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn.
• In the Subnet Mask field, enter the Subnet Mask for your company. In most cases it
is 255.255.255.0.
10. Click OK to close this window and return to the Network window.
11. Click OK on the Network window to save your settings.
Note: Windows might prompt you to insert your Windows CD-ROM or diskettes
as part of the installation. Follow the prompts as they appear on the screen.
You will need to reboot your PC for the changes to take effect.
