Ethernet PC Connection
After installing and configuring your Network Interface Card (NIC) and have a good physical
connection between your computer and the hub, you need to configure the NIC for your
operating system. Use one of the following procedures:
• Windows 95, 98, and NT PCs.
• Windows 3.11 PCs.
Ethernet Connection for Windows 95, 98, and NT PCs
Before starting the following procedure, have your original Windows CD-ROM on hand, and
any diskettes provided by the manufacturer of your NIC, as your computer might require them
during this setup.
Note: The example used in this section is for a Windows 95 PC. Your options
might look different if running Windows 98 or NT Workstations.
To configure your network interface card for Windows 95, 98 and NT:
1. In the lower left corner of the screen, click Start and select Settings > Control Panel to
display the Control Panel window.
2. Double-click the System icon to display the System Properties dialog box.
3. Click the Device Manager tab to bring it forward.
4. Check whether yellow or red displays on or next to the network interface card (NIC)
icon.
• If you do not have any problems with your NIC icon, click the Cancel button at the
bottom of the screen to close that window and return to the Control Panel.
• If your NIC icon displays yellow, the hardware has a conflict. If the icon displays red,
the hardware is disabled. Do one of the following:
• Double-click on the device icon to display the Properties dialog box for the device
to see details of the problem.
• You can also use the Windows Help system to start a hardware troubleshooting
program to assist in resolving this problem. Click Start and select Help.
Windows displays the Help window. Double-click to open the Troubleshooting
book and look for the If you have a hardware conflict topic. The help topic steps
you through using the Windows hardware troubleshooting program to help you
resolve the problem.
• Otherwise, contact the vendor from whom you purchased your NIC.
• If your NIC is not on the device list, but you know the type of NIC you have installed,
skip ahead to Step 5.
