A variance of greater than or less than the percentage entered in the System Backup Variance %
control maintenance record generates a message similar to the following example:
The backup started at 03:52pm on 05/25/1999 completed after 0.02 hours.
24520 blocks were backed up with a variance of 16246.67%, which is greater than the
allowed variance.
Although exaggerated, this example demonstrates the way the variance control maintenance
record displays the variance error if greater than the designated percentage. The variance control
record was added as a way to alert administrators to potential drastic changes in the Eclipse file
system.
For example, a user runs a report writer report that generates a Hold file of 500 megabytes. This
may be a file you do not want to keep on your system, as it is using a significant amount of disk
space.
Unsuccessful Backup Message
If the backup program encounters an error during processing, the following message is directed
to the user or message group designated in the System Backup Administrator control
maintenance record:
The backup did not complete properly. An error report has been placed in your Hold file.
Note: The system places the error report in the Hold file of each designated user.
In addition, the system backup check program run the next morning generates the following
message:
No backup has been recorded since 05/23/02.
