Minimum Hardware Requirements
We recommend that the system administrator keep an updated site map, and label all cables,
ports, and devices. Contact Intuit Eclipse System Support to familiarize yourself with the
system’s hardware.
Following are the minimum hardware requirements for running the Eclipse system.
Existing Hardware (RS/6000) Systems
Companies currently using RS/6000 systems are required to upgrade to the appropriate AIX and
UniVerse releases when signing with Intuit Eclipse.
Use the following procedure to determine the RS6000's machine type.
To determine the RS600 machine type:
1. At the command prompt (#), type the following command:
# uname -M
The system displays the following information:
IBM,7029-6E
Important: This information, along with the serial number found on a label on the front
in close proximity to the tape and CD-Rom drives, is important when
seeking IBM maintenance.
Electrical Power Protection
We recommend that each hardware system be equipped with an American Power Conversion
UPS and PowerChute software. Buy the model best suited to your needs. These machines are
sold based on the amperage that the equipment being plugged into it will require. Consult
appropriate technical personnel if you need help in determining that load.
The purpose of an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) device is to allow for normal shutdown
procedures during power failures, not to keep your system up for any extended period of time.
Intuit Eclipse Support recommends and supports American Power Conversion UPS and their
PowerChute software. PowerChute’s job is to bring your system down in an orderly fashion in
the event of power failure when you are not on site. When you are present during a power
failure and the power is going to be off for an extended period of time, we recommend that you
manually bring the machine down. Contact your Intuit Eclipse sales representative directly with
any sizing questions.
We also recommend that you have a dedicated branch circuit for your computer.
Note: Never plug a Laser printer into a UPS.
