AIX System Commands
The following tables describe common commands that the system administrator can use at the
AIX operating system, UniVerse database, and Eclipse application levels.
AIX Command Prompts
The following table describes how to display the common prompts for the AIX operating system,
UniVerse database, and Eclipse application.
Symbol Prompt
$ or # AIX command prompt.
To display this prompt, do one of the following:
• Log in to AIX as root.
• From the System menu in Eclipse, select TCL to display the ; prompt. Then
enter sh to shell from Eclipse to AIX.
> UniVerse command prompt.
To display this prompt, at the AIX command prompt (#), enter su - uv to go to UniVerse.
Then press Esc to display the > prompt.
; Eclipse TCL prompt.
To display this prompt, from the System menu in Eclipse, select TCL.
AIX Process Management Commands
The following table describes common AIX process management commands.
Command Description and Example
ps –ef|grep string
Displays any processes containing the designated string.
Example:
root:/# ps -ef|grep jjames
root 31442 21234 0 10:29:27 pts/32 0:00 grep jjames
jjames 36954 20938 0 09:31:08 pts/28 0:00 uv
ps –ef|pg
Displays all processes running on the system.
Example:
root:/# ps -ef|pg
