Printer Commands
Use the following commands with Ethernet and Serial printers.
ENQ Commands for Network/Ethernet Printers Only
The enq command is a general-purpose utility for enqueuing requests to a shared resource,
typically a printer device. Use the enq command to enqueue requests, cancel requests, alter the
priority of a request, and display the status of queues and devices.
In the following commands, replace # with the number that corresponds to the appropriate
printer or job number.
Command Description
enq -DPlp#
Brings a printer down.
enq -XPlp#
Cancels all jobs at the specified printer.
enq -UPlp#
Bringing up a “downed” printer queue in AIX.
enq -x#
Cancels the indicated job number.
Example: enq -x509
USA Commands for Serial and Ethernet Printers
In the following commands, replace # with the number that corresponds to the appropriate
printer or job number.
Command Description
usa
Displays the spooler status.
usa -p lp#
Displays the spooler status only for the specified printer, such as LP4.
usa -A
Displays all active print jobs.
usa -b -p lp#
Stops printing current job for the specified printer.
usa -c -p lp#
Restarts current job for the specified printer.
usa -j
Lists all queued jobs.
usa +o -p lp#
Resets a specified printer.
Note: This command only works if the system has requested this action.
usm -k #
Kills the specified job.
