5. Enter the following command to send the Welcome to AIX screen to the printer:
lp -dlp# /etc/motd
6. Check your results, as follows:
• If the system prompt (#) displays, the system believes it is printing.
Go into Eclipse and confirm you can print from there as well. If you cannot print
from Eclipse, the problem is within the setup of the printer in the Eclipse layer.
• If nothing printed, you have a physical problem. Check your cabling, adapter, and the
printer’s internal configuration (see recommended printer configuration).
• If you hang and do not return to the system prompt (#), press the Ctrl+Break keys to
return to the system prompt. There is a problem with the way the printer was set up in
Unix or UniVerse, or the tty the printer is using is hung. Refer to your serial printer
setup documentation, or the instructions on how to clear a hung tty.
7. When all else fails, call Intuit Eclipse Systems Group for support.
Slave Printers
Use the following procedure to troubleshoot a slave printer from a DOS computer.
To troubleshoot a slave printer from a DOS computer:
1. Power on your computer.
2. When the screen displays Loading MS DOS, press F5 to bypass your CONFIG.SYS and
AUTOEXEC.BAT files and display the DOS prompt (C:\>).
3. At the DOS prompt (C:\>), enter the following command to send a directory list of the
current disk drive to the printer.
dir > prn
4. If the printer does not print out the directory, check the form feed light.
• If the form feed light is on, press the Form Feed button and then the Online button to
get the directory to print.
• If the form feed light is not on, see “If You Still Cannot Print” to troubleshoot the
problem.
