Troubleshooting Individual Printers
This topic includes information about troubleshooting the following types of printers:
• Serial printers.
• Ethernet printers.
• Slave printers.
Serial Printers
Use the following procedure to troubleshoot serial printers.
To troubleshoot a serial printer:
1. Get a status on the problem printer in one of the following ways:
• In Unix, log on as the root user. At the command prompt (#), type usa -p lp# (where
# is the printer number) and press Enter.
• In Eclipse, from the System > Printers > Spooler Management menu, select
Spooler Status to display the Spooler Status screen.
2. If the printer shows there is a job sending, suspend printing to the printer, power the
printer off and on, and then restart the printing in one of the following ways:
• In Unix, do the following:
• At the command prompt (#), enter the following command to stop printing to the
printer:
usa -b -p lp#
• Power the problem printer off/on.
• Enter the following command to start printing:
usa -c -p lp#
• Repeat step 1. If printer still does not print, continue on to step 3.
• In Eclipse, do the following:
• From the System > Printers menu select Spooler Management to display the
Spooler Management screen.
• Select Halt Printing to a Printer, highlight the problem printer, and press Enter.
• Power the problem printer off/on.
• On the Spooler Management screen, select Resume Printing to a Printer,
highlight the problem printer, and press Enter.
• Send a test job, such as a short report or tracker, to the printer.
