Setting Up Slave Printers
Assigning a slave printer to a terminal tells the system to send print jobs from that terminal to the
Windows default printer. The slave printer is connected to the terminal, and is considered the
terminal's default printer. When you assign a slave printer to a terminal, select the terminal from
the Terminal Setup screen and assign the printer to that terminal.
You can also set up a receipt slave printer for a selected user or group terminal.
Note: A report run from the phantom cannot print directly on a terminal's slave
printer. To print to the slave printer, send the generated report to the Hold
file and then print it from the print queue. To print the report directly,
change the terminal's default printer to be a non-slave printer.
The following procedures describe how to:
Set up a slave printer in Eclipse.
Configure Eterm communications for a DOS computer.
Configure Eterm communications for a Windows computer.
To set up a slave printer in Eclipse:
1. Physically attach the printer to your computer.
2. Log in to the Eclipse system.
3. From the System > System Files menu, select Terminal Setup to display the Terminal
Setup screen.
4. In the ID column, select the printer tty (if Serial) or ID (if Ethernet) and use the Slave
Printer hot key to display the Slave Printer Assignment screen.
5. In the Slave Printer field, press F10, select the printer type to use, and press Enter.
Most dot matrix printers use GENERIC or PRINTRONIX printer types, while most laser
printers use HPLJ printer types.
6. In the Form Loaded field, add or change the form loaded on your printer, as necessary.
*ANY* is the most common form loaded on a slave printer and means that everything
you print from Eclipse prints to your slave printer.
7. Press Esc to save your settings and exit the Slave Printer Assignment screen.
To configure Eterm communications for a computer running Eterm for DOS:
1. Press Ctrl + Print Screen to open the Eterm for DOS Configuration screen.
2. For serial connections, using tty's, do the following:
In the Printer field, change the setting to LPT1.
In the HPCL Printing field, change the setting to one of the following:
