Changing Settings for the ESI Print Server
Use this procedure to review the configuration settings for the ESI print server.
To change configuration settings for the ESI print server of the currently selected device:
1. From the Print Server pull-down menu, select Configuration.
ExtendView displays the Print Server Configuration dialog box.
The following table displays the minimum configuration settings.
Setting Description
Permanent Subnet
Mask
Enter the permanent subnet mask appropriate for your network. The subnet
mask must follow the format nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn, where nnn is a number between
0 and 255. The default subnet mask is 0.0.0.0. The print server interprets a
subnet mask of 0.0.0.0 or 255.255.255.255 as no subnet mask specified.
Default Gateway
If your local area network (LAN) is not attached to other networks, set this field
to 0.0.0.0; this is most common in smaller-sized companies. If your LAN is
attached to other networks, specify the address of your default gateway for users
from that network to print to this device. This gateway address must follow the
format nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn, where nnn is a number between 0 and 255.
Note: You cannot configure a print server that is located in a different network,
even if your LAN is connected with that network. This software will have to be
installed on that network and the device configured from there.
Port Number
Select the port number you want to configure.
Timeout Checking
Use timeout checking to sever network TCP/IP connections that are idle for
more than five minutes (or the time entered, if configurable on your printer
server). Under most conditions, this option should remain enabled. The valid
timeout range is between 10 to 3600 seconds (the default is 300). We
recommend entering 3600 seconds.
Language
Switching
Set to PCL for HPLaserJet Printers, and leave at Default for dot matrix printers.
Password
This password protects the print server configuration through Telnet or HTTP
sessions. Valid passwords are from 5 to 24 characters long.
Note: This should be “Password” in lowercase.
2. Change the settings, as needed.
Note: When changing settings, remember that OK and Cancel affect the entire
dialog box. Do not choose OK until you have entered all changes on all
tabs. Cancel aborts all changes on all tabs.
