Configuring an ESI Device from AIX-Unix
Use the following procedure to configure an ESI device from AIX-Unix.
To configure an ESI Device from AIX-Unix:
1. Verify that there is a good physical connection between the ESI device and the hub.
2. Depending on the device you are using, do one of the following:
If you are using a Pocket Print Server (an external ESI device):
Attach the device to the printer and the network.
Power on the printer.
Do not power on the device.
If you are using an MIO Card (an internal ESI device):
Install the device on the printer.
Do not power on the printer.
3. Locate the hardware address of the ESI device.
The address starts with 00:40:68 and is followed by 6 more digits. External devices have
this address printed near the serial number on the back of the card. Internal devices
display this number on your Printers Configuration page.
4. Log in to AIX-Unix as root, if you have not already done so.
5. At the system prompt (#), enter the following command:
arp -s ether XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX 00:40:68:##:##:## temp
Replace xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx with the unique IP address for this printer and replace ##:##:##
with the Hardware Address of the ESI device.
For example:
arp -s ether 199.199.199.199 00:40:68:0A:1B:4F temp
6. Power on the ESI device (if external) or printer (if internal).
Note: If the ESI device has not resolved its IP address after two minutes, it
defaults to using 199.102.102.254 as its IP address. You must reset the
device and repeat Step 6.
