Setting Up Ethernet Printers in Release 7
Setting up an Ethernet network printer requires you to make changes at the Eclipse application
level and the AIX-Unix level.
To prevent duplication of network printers, review the currently defined printer IDs before
setting up the new printer.
The following procedures describe how to:
Identify the currently defined network printers.
Define a printer and assign loadable forms.
Add the printer to printer locations.
Assign forms to the printer trays.
Add the IP address of the printer to the /etc/hosts file.
Create a print queue.
Set up the printer in UniVerse.
Create the printer driver.
To identify the currently defined network printers:
1. From the System > Printers menu, select Spooler Management to display the Spooler
Management screen.
2. Select Spooler Status to display the Spooler Status screen, which displays the status of
all printers and their associated print jobs.
Note: Take note of the currently assigned LP numbers, to prevent duplication
when you enter a number for the new network printer you are setting up.
To define a printer and assign loadable forms:
1. From the System > System Files > Printer Setup menu, select Assign Printer/Fax to
display the Assign Printer/Fax screen.
2. In the Printer # field, press F10 and select New. Then enter a new printer number, such
as LP6.
3. In the Name field, enter the name of the printer, up to nine characters long.
This name appears anytime the system prompts for a printer, and it should be a name that
is easily associated with the printer, such as OfficeLsr.
4. In the Printer Make & Model field, press F10 and select from the displayed list the
printer type that most resembles your printer.
