Sample to be tested for metallurgical, coolant, antifreeze, and debris
contamination. Measure oil viscosity.
e) Oil and Filters
Change crankcase oil and filters.
5. ENGINE STARTING SYSTEM
a) Batteries
Inspect for damage or leakage. All battery connections will be cleaned
and tightened.
Measure and record specific gravity readings for each battery call.
Check for correct electrolyte level.
Record DC voltage power supply.
Record findings of carbon load test performance.
Test engine-starting batteries and provide written status report. Cleaning
and tightening of all battery connections.
b) Battery Charger
Inspect for proper operation, loose terminals, and deteriorated wiring.
c) Starting Motor
Inspect electrical connection and wiring. For air starters, inspect oil jar
and feeder operation.
Operational check for abnormal engagement and cranking noises.
d) Alternator
Inspect for proper operation, loose connections and mounting hardware.
Check belts.
Replace alternator belt. Inspect pulley and voltage output.
e) Magnetic Pickup
Removal, inspection and adjustment.
6. MONITORS AND SAFETY CONTROLS
a) Safety Controls
Inspect for proper operation, loose connections and wiring deterioration.
Check all safety controls for proper operation (electrical test).
b) Remote Annunciators and Alarms
Inspect and test panel and system alarms for proper operation.
c) Gauge Accuracy
Check oil pressure, coolant temperature, and alternator gauges for
accuracy.
d) Sending Unit Switches
Check coolant temperature and oil pressure sending unit switches.
