Cutting Blades
_ ARNING: Besure to shut the engine
off, remove ignition key,disconnect the
spark plug wire(s) and ground against
the engine to prevent unintended starting
before removing the cutting blade(s) for
sharpening or replacement. Protect your
hands by usingheavy gloves or a rag to
grasp thecutting blade.
WARNING: Periodically inspect the blade
spindles for cracks or damage, especially
if you strike a foreign object. Replace
immediately if damaged.
The bladesmayberemovedas follows.
1. Removethedeckfrombeneaththe tractor,(referto
CuttingDeckRemovalon page23) thengentlyflip
thedeckoverto exposeitsunderside.
2. Placea blockof wood betweenthe centerdeckhous-
ingbaffleandthe cuttingbladeto act as a stabilizer.

3. Removethe hexflangenutthat securesthe bladeto
the spindleassembly.SeeFig.6-4.
4. Toproperlysharpenthe cuttingblades,removeequal
amountsof metalfrombothends of the bladesalong
thecutting edges,parallelto the trailingedge,at a
250to 300angle.
IMPORTANT:Ifthe cuttingedgeof the bladehasalready
beensharpenedto within15/8" fromtheedge,or if any
metalseparationis present,replacethe bladeswith new
ones.SeeFig.6-5.
• It is importantthateachcuttingbladeedgebeground
equallyto maintainproperbladebalance.
• Whenreplacingtheblade,be sureto installthe blade
withthe sideof the blademarked"Bottom" (orwith
a part numberstampedinit) facingthe groundwhen
the moweris inthe operatingposition.
IMPORTANT:Usea torquewrenchto tightenthe blade
spindlehexflangenutto between70foot-poundsand90
foot-pounds.
Fuses
Afuse is installedinyourtractor'swiringharnessto
protectthe tractor'selectricalsystemfromdamage
causedby excessiveamperage.
If theelectricalsystemdoesnot function,oryour
tractor'senginewill not crank,firstcheckto becertain
thatthe fusehasnotblown.
• It caneither befoundunderthe hoodmountedbehind
thetop of the dash panelonthe supportbar,or under
the seatmountedto the insideof the tractorframe
nextto the batterytray.
IMPORTANT:Alwaysusea fusewiththe sameamper-
agecapacityfor replacement.
