SIGHT AND HOLD THIS LEVEL WITH A VERTICAL TREE ,11 A POWER POLE A CORNER OF A BUILDING I nq OR A FENCE POST I iii 15° iii ..I &i Z n iii _WARNING Do not mow on inclines with a slope in excess of 15 degrees (a rise of approximately 2-1/2 feet every 10 feet). A riding mower could overturn and cause serious injury. If operating a walk-behind mower on such a slope, it is extremely difficult to maintain your footing and you could slip, resulting in sedous injury.
SECTION3: TRACTOR SET-UP AttachingtheBatteryCables NOTE: The positive battery terminal is marked Pos. (+). The negative battery terminal is marked Neg. (-). The positive cable (heavy red wire) is secured to the positive battery terminal (+) with a hex bolt and hex nut at the factory. Make certain that the rubber boot covers the terminal to help protect it from corrosion. Remove the hex bolt and wing nut from the negative cable.
SECTION4: KNOWYOURLAWNTRACTOR F A G \ H B C L NOTE: Steering Wheel not shown for clarity.
ThrottleControlLever IgnitionSwitch The throttle control lever is located on the right side of the tractor's dash panel. This lever controls the speed of the engine and, on some models, when pushed all the way forward, the choke control also. When set in a given position, the throttle wilt maintain a uniform engine speed. See Figure 3. Choke Positio_ WARNING: Never leave a running machine unattended.
SystemsIndicatorMonitor Electric PTO Your tractor is equipped with either an hour meter or an ammeter as part of two available systems indicator monitors. Locate the monitor on the left side of your dash panel and compare it to both shown in Figure 5. (PowerTake-off)Knob To engage the power to the cutting deck or other (separately available) attachments on models equipped with an electric PTO, pull outward on the PTO knob. Push the PTO knob inward to disengage the power to the cutting deck.
ParkingBrakeButton ,dJ _r_l__l NOTE: Cruise control can NOT be engaged at the tractor's fastest ground speed. If the operator should attempt to do so, the tractor will automatically decelerate to the fastest optimal mowing ground speed. _ To set the parking brake, fully depress the brake pedal and push the parking brake button in. Hold the button in while taking your foot off the brake pedal. Both the parking button and the brake pedal will then stay depressed.
Turn the ignition key clockwise to the START position. After the engine starts, release the key. It will return to the ON position. WARNING AVOIDSERIOUS INJURYORDEATH • • • • • • • • • • • • IMPORTANT: Do NOT hold the key in the START position for longer than ten seconds at a time. Doing so may cause damage to your engine's electric starter. GO UP AND DOWN SLOPES, NOT ACROSS. AVOID SUDDEN TURNS. DO NOT OPERATE THE UNIT WHERE IT COULD SLIP OR TIP.
NOTE: EngagingtheParkingBrake Cruise control can not be engaged at the tractor's fastest ground speed. If the operator should attempt to do so, the tractor will automatically decelerate to the fastest optimal mowing ground speed. To engage the parking brake: Fully depress the brake pedal and hold it down with your foot while gently pushing the parking brake button inward.
Maintain a slow ground speed to allow the grass clippings more time to effectively be mulched. Always position the throttle control lever in the FAST (rabbit) position and allow it to remain there while mowing. Failing to keep the engine at full throttle places strain on the tractor's engine and does not allow the blades to properly mulch grass.
SECTION6: MAKINGADJUSTMENTS ,_ adjustments while engine to ismake running, WARNING: Nevertheattempt any except where specified in the operator's manual. Loosen the two jam nuts on the rear side of the deck stabilizer bracket. See Figure 9A. Locate the two lock nuts on the opposite side of the stabilizer bracket. See Figure 9A. Tighten the lock nuts to raise the front of the deck; loosen the lock nuts to lower the front of the deck.
StandardSeat ParkingBrakeAdjustment To adjust the position of the seat on models not equipped with a seat adjustment lever, loosen, but do NOT remove the four screws which secure the seat to WARNING: Never attempt to adjust the brakes while the engine is running. Always disengage PTO, move shift lever into neutral position, stop engine and remove key to prevent unintended starting. the seat pivot bracket. Slide the seat forward or backward until desired position is reached. Retighten the four screws.
Remove the hex nut and lock washer on the top of bali joint. See Figure 12. Thread the bait joint toward the jam nut to shorten the drag link. Thread the ball joint away from the jam nut to lengthen the drag link. Replace hex nut and lock washer and retighten the jam nut after proper adjustment is achieved. Place the steering wheel in position for straight ahead travel. In front of the axle, measure the distance horizontally from the inside of the left rim to the inside of the right rim. Note the distance.
Lubrication Front Axles Each end of the tractor's front pivot bar may be equipped with a grease fitting. Lubricate with a grease gun after every 25 hours of tractor operation. WARNING: inspecting, shift lever brake, stop unintended Before lubricating, repairing, or always disengage PTO, move into neutral position, set parking engine and remove key to prevent starting. Cleaningthe EngineAndDeck Any fuel or oil spilled on the machine should be wiped off promptly.
CuttingBlades Blade Separation WARNING: Be sure to shut the engine off, remove ignition key, disconnect the spark plug wire(s) and ground against the engine to prevent unintended starting before removing the cutting blade(s) for sharpening or replacement. Protect your hands by using heavy gloves or a rag to grasp the cutting blade. / Worn Blade Edge Wind Wing WARNING: Periodically inspect the blade adapter and/or spindle for cracks or damage, especially if you strike a foreign object.
ChangingtheDeckBelt& PTOBelt WARNING: Be sure to shut the engine off, remove ignition key, disconnect the spark plug wire(s) and ground against the engine to prevent unintended starting before removing the belt(s). All belts on your tractor are subject to wear and should be replaced if any signs of wear are present. IMPORTANT:The V-belts found on your tractor are specially designed to engage and disengage safely. A substitute (non-OEM) V-belt can be dangerous by not disengaging completely.
