SET-UP Adding Oil Fuel Recommendations Use automotivegasoline(unleadedor low leadedto minimizecombustionchamberdeposits)with a minimumof 87 octane.Gasolinewith up to 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButylEther)can be used. Neveruse an oil/gasolinemixtureor dirty gasoline.Avoidgetting dirt, dust,or waterin the fueltank. DONOT use E85gasoline. • Refuelina well-ventilatedareawith the enginestopped.Donot smokeor allowflamesor sparksin the area wherethe engine is refueledor wheregasolineis stored.
ADJUSTMENTS Chute Assembly The pitchof the chuteassemblycontrolsthe angleat which the snow is thrown. 1. Loosenthewingknobfoundontheleftsideofthechuteassemblyand pivotthe upper chuteupwardor downwardto thedesiredpitch. Retightenthe wing knobbeforeoperatingthe snowthrower. 2. Positionthe chute assemblyopeningby usingthe chute handleto throwthe snow in the desireddirection.See Figure6. F j .......................

AUGER CONTROL BEFORE Locatedon the upperhandle,the auger controlhandleis usedto engageand disengagedriveto the auger.Squeezethe controlhandle againstthe upperhandleto engagethe auger;releaseit to disengage. Pushthe primerthreeto five (3-5) times, makingsureto cover the vent hole whenpushing.If the engineis warm,pushthe primeronlyonce.
MAINTENANCE Beforeperforminganytypeof maintenance/service, disengageall controlsand stoptheengine.Waituntilall movingpartshavecometo a completestop.Disconnectsparkplugwireandgrounditagainstthe enginetopreventunintendedstarting.Alwayswearsafetyglassesduring operationor whileperforminganyadjustments or repairs. CHANGING ENGINE OiL SPARK PLUG NOTE: Checkthe oil levelbeforeeach useand after everyfive hours of operationto be surethe correctoil levelis maintained.Referto CheckingEngineOil. 1. Drainfuelfrom the tank by runningtheengine untilthe fueltank is empty.Be surethe fuel fill capis secure. 2. Placea suitableoil collectioncontainerunderthe oil drain plug. 3. DONOTcheck fora spark with the sparkplug removed.DONOT crank theengine with the sparkplug removed.
4. Checkthatthesparkplugwasherisingoodconditionandthreadthe 3. Control Cable 2. As a resultof both thecontrolcableand the auger drivebelt stretching due to wear,periodicadjustmentsmay be necessary.If the auger seemsto hesitatewhenrotating,proceedas follows: Theupper hole in the controlhandle providesfor an adjustmentin cabletension.Toadjust,disconnectthe end of controlcablefrom the bottomholein the controlhandleand reinsertit in the upper hole. Insertthe cablefrom theoutsideas shown in Figure15.
REPLACING AUGER PADDLES The snowthrowerauger'srubberpaddlesare subjectto wearand shouldbe replacedifany signsof excessivewearare present. Do NOTallowthe auger'srubberpaddlesto wearto the pointwhere portionsof the metalauger itselfcancome in contactwith the pavement.Doingsocan resultin seriousdamageto yoursnowthrower. Tochangethe rubberpaddles,proceedas follows: 1. Removethe existingrubberpaddlesby unscrewingthe selftappingscrewswhich securethemto theauger.See Figure18. Self-Ta Screws Figure18 2.
If the snowthrowerwillnot be usedfor30 daysor longer,or if it is the end of the snowseasonwhenthe last possibilityof snowis gone,the equipmentneedsto be storedproperly.Followstorageinstructionsbelowto ensuretop performancefrom the snowthrowerfor manymoreyears. PREPARING PREPARING ENGINE Whenstoringthe snowthrowerin an unventilatedor metal storage shed,careshouldbe taken to rustprooftheequipment.Using a light oil or silicone,coat theequipment,especiallyanychains, springs,bearingsand cables.
