In orderto createa widercuttingpathfor suchthingsas
layingwirefor landscapelightingor invisiblefences,you
can utilizethe edger'soptionaltrenchingfeature.
_ ARNING:Disconnectthe sparkplug
wire and ground against the engine before
performing the following steps.
_1 ARNING: The edger blade is sharp. Wear
leather work gloves to protect your hands
when working around the edger blade.

1. Workinginfrontof the edger,loosenthe flangelock
nut ontop of frame,allowingthe idlerpulleyassembly
to pivotslightlyout fromthe frame.
2. Withyourotherhand,carefullyreachunderthe
rearof the unitand removethe belt fromaroundthe
engineflywheelpulley,Figure5-4.
3. Removethe beltguardby removingthetwo self-
tappingscrewswhichsecureit to the bladeplate
assembly,Figure5-5.
4. Usetwowrenches(onewrenchto preventthe hex
bolt headfromspinningandthe otherto unthreadthe
flangenut) to removethe flangenut thatsecuresthe
edgerblade,leavingtheedgerbladeinplace,Figure
5-6.

5. Install the Tri-star edger blade andthe flat washer,
Figure5-7.
6. Securewiththe flangenutremovedearlier.
IMPORTANT:Usea torque wrenchto tighten the
flange nut to between 37foot-lbs, and 50 foot-lbs.
7. Reinstallthe spindlebeltguardwiththe selftapping
screwsremovedearlier.
8. Carefullyplacethe drivebelt backonto theengine
flywheelpulley,and retightentheflangelocknut on
the top of the frame.
