Adding Gasoline & Oil
Servicethe enginewithgasolineandoil as instructed
inthe EngineManualpackedwithyouredger.Read
instructionscarefully.

Starting The Engine
NOTE: Referto the Engine Manual packedwith your
edger for a detailed description of all engine-related
controls and components.
Tostarttheedger'sengine,proceedas follows:
1. Attachthe sparkplugwireto the sparkplug.Make
certainthe metalcap on theend ofthe sparkplug
wireis fastenedsecurelyoverthe metaltip onthe
sparkplug.
2. Movethe bladedepthcontrolleverbackto the
STARTpositionin the adjacent(top) notch.
3. Depressthe primerbulbthreetimes,pausingtwoto
threesecondsbetweeneachpush.Incold weather
(below50°F/19°0), it maybenecessaryto depress
the primerbulbfouror fivetimes.
IMPORTANT:Using the primerto restart a warm
engineafter a short shutdownis usually not neces-
sary. Doing so may resultina flooded engine.
4. Standingbehindtheunit,depressthebladecontroland
holditagainsttheupperhandlewithyourIdt hand.

Withyourrighthand,grasptherecoilstarterhandleand
slowlypullthe ropeoutwarduntilenginereachesthe
startof itscompressioncycle(theropewillpullslightly
harderatthispoint).
6. Afterslowlyallowingthe ropeto recoil,pullthe rope
witha rapid,continuous,fullarmstroke.Keepa firm
gripon starterhandlethroughouttheentirestroke.
7. Allowthestarterhandletoslowlyreturntotheeyebolt.
NOTE:If the enginefails to start after three pulls,
depress the primeran additional two times before
pulling the starter rope again.
Stopping The Engine
Tostoptheedger'sengine,releasethe bladecontrol.

Edging
beginedging,proceedasfollows:
Movethe unit overto theareato be edged,making
surethatthe left rearwheelis on a hardsurfaceand
the bladeis overthe areato becut, Figure5-1.
Movethe bladedepthcontrolleverto the leftandplace
intothe nextlowernotch.Thenmakea passalongthe
areato beedgedbeforeproceedingto the nextnotch.
Thefurtherforwardthe bladedepthcontrolleveris
moved,the deeperor lowerthe bladewill cut intothe
ground.Severalpassesmaybe necessaryto obtain
the desireddepthof cut. Do not lowerthe blademore
thanonedepth notchat a timewithoutmakinga pass.

3. Forbestresults,proceedslowlyalongthepathbeing
edged,slowlymovingtheedgerbackandforththrough
thecuttingarea,againmakingsureto keepthe leftrear
wheelonthe hardsurfaceandthe bladeinthecutting
path,closeto butnottouchingtheedgeof thehard
surface.
4. Onceyou havereachedthe endof your cuttingpath,
raisethe bladecontrolleverbackinto the STARTposi-
tion,moveto the nextareato beedged,andproceed
againfromstep1.
Bevel Adjustment
Theangleof theedgerbladecanbeadjustedby placing
thebeveladjustmentinoneof threepositionsfor edging/
trenchingor bevelededging,Figure5-3.
_ ARNING: Rotating cuttingblade may
throw objects causingpersonal injury.Keep
areaclear of bystanders anddo not operate without
guards in place.
Beveling
In orderto achievea bevellededge,setthe bevel
adjustmentlever(referto Figure5-2) inthe first (left-hand)
orthird (right-hand)notchto placethe edgerbladein
positionfor beveling.
