Replacing the Drive Belt
iMPORTANT:Toaid in reassembly,note the orienta-
tionof the drivebelton thetwo idlerpulleysand
the engineflywheel pulleypriorto performingthe
following steps,Figure6-4.
Theedgerdrivebelt issubjectto wear andshouldbe
replacedifany signsof cracking,shreddingor rotting
arepresent.To replacethe belt,proceedas follows:
1. Workingin frontof the edger,loosentheflange
locknut ontop of frame,allowingthe idlerpulley
assemblyto pivotslightlyoutfromthe frame,Figure
6-4.
2. Withyourotherhand,carefullyreachunderthe
rearof the unitand removethe beltfromaroundthe
engineflywheelpulley.
3. Removethespindlesheavesbeltguardby removing
the twoself-tappingscrewswhichsecureitto the
bladeplateassembly.
4. Carefullyremovethe belt fromoff of the pulleys,again
makingsureto notethe orientationof the belt. Discard
the belt.
Installthereplacementbelt(PartNo.754-04032B)inthesame
configurationthattheoriginalbeltwasroutedasfollows:
5. Workingfromthe frontof theedger,placethe beltonto
the spindlesheaves,routeitbackonto thetwo idler
pulleys,andthenplace itontothe engineflywheel
pulley.
IMPORTANT:Makecertainthatthe "V" side ofthe belt
isseatedinto thetop pulleyandthe flatsideof the beltis
seatedintothe bottompulley.
6. Reinstallthe spindlesheavesbelt guardwiththe self
tappingscrewsremovedearlier.
7. Makecertainthatthe drive beltison the engine
flywheelpulleyandidlerpulleys,andretightenthe
flangelocknuton the topof theframe.
IMPORTANT:Makecertainthatthe drive beltis seated
correctlyandthatit is ridingsmoothlyon the spindle
sheavesandis not pinchedbetweenthem.Repeatthe
first threestepsifthe belt ispinched.

Off-Season Storage
Observethe followingwhenpreparingthe edgerfor long-termstorage:
Cleanandlubricateunit thoroughly.
Referto the EngineManualpackedseparately
withthe edgerfor enginemanufacturers'sstorage
instructions.
Coatthe edgerbladewithchassisgreaseto prevent
rustingandcorrosion.
Storetheedgerin a dry,cleanarea. Do notstorenext
to anycorrosivematerials,suchas lawnfertilizer.
Coatthe edger,especiallyany springsandbearings
witha lightoil or siliconespray.
IMPORTANT:Whenstoringanytypeof powerequipment
in anpoorlyventilatedor metalstorageshed,care should
betakento rustproofthe equipment.
