6. Checkthatthesparkplugwasherisin goodconditionandthreadthespark
plugin byhandto preventcross-threading.
7. Afterthesparkplugisseated,tightenwith asparkplugwrenchto compress
thewasher.
NOTE:Wheninstallinganewsparkplug,tighten1/2-turnafterthespark
plugseatsto compressthewasher.Whenreinstallingausedsparkplug,
tighten1/8-to 1/4-turnafterthesparkplugseatsto compressthewasher.
Thesparkplug mustbetightened securely.Aloosesparkplugcan become
veryhot and candamagetheengine.
Removingdebriswillinsureadequatecooling,correctenginespeedandreducethe
riskoffire.
Accumulationof debris aroundthe muffler couldcauseafire. Inspectand
cleanbeforeeveryuse.
Lubrication
Lubricatethepivotpointsonthecontrolhandleandtheextensionspringat theend
of thecontrolcablewith a lightoilonceeveryseasonandbeforethesnowthrower
isputinto storageattheendof theseason.
Adjustments
ShavePlate
Tochecktheadjustmentof theshaveplate,placethemachineonalevelsurface.
Thewheels,shaveplateandaugerpaddlesshouldallcontactthelevelsurface.
Notethatif theshaveplateisadjustedtoohigh,snowmayblowundertheauger
housing.If theshaveplatewearsoutexcessively,orthesnowthrowerdoesnot
self-propel,theshaveplatemaybetoolowandneedsto beadjusted.
NOTE:Onnewsnowthrowersormachineswith anewshaveplateinstalled,
theaugerpaddlesmaybeslightlyoffthe ground.
Toadjusttheshaveplateproceedasfollows:
1. Runthesnowthroweruntilthefueltankisempty.
2. Pullthestartercorduntil resistanceisfelt.Thentip thesnowthrowerback
until it restsonthehandles.Toensurethatthesnowthrowerdoesnottip
forward,it maybenecessaryto securethehandleto thegroundwith ablock
orotherobject.
3. Loosenthefourflangelocknutsandcarriageboltswhichsecuretheshave
plateto thehousing.SeeFigure17.Movetheshaveplateto thedesiredposition
andretightenthenutsandboltssecurely.
Cleaningthe Engine
If theenginehasbeenrunning,allowittocoolfor at leasthalfanhourbefore
cleaning.Periodicallyremovedirt build-upfromengine.Beforeservicingthe
engine,removethecarburetorcoverand/orblowerhousing.Discardthedirt and
debrisfromthefollowingareas:
Donot spraythe enginewith water to cleanit becausethewater could
contaminatethe fuel. Usinga gardenhoseorpressurewashingequipment
canalsoforcewater intothe muffler opening. Waterthat passesthrough
the muffler can enterthe cylinderandcausedamage.
